Looking back, it's laughable that people acted like this would be Toji no Miko meets PriPri meets Yuru Yuri. Probably the second most untrue hype train of 2018.

We were coming off a couple of decent mobage ad anime. PriPri, Toji no Miko and Revue Starlight in particular were actually decent (TnM in my opinion is legitimately spectacular) shows that had good stories and characters despite being ads for larger franchise opportunities. So I guess I can kind of see why people thought this would be the next one.
The denial that this show was just awful and flopping was pretty funny in retropsect.

What's laughable are the people making all sorts of assumptions, the show never really advertised itself as such.
It had silly impossible gadgets and a twisted villain that only care about their pet, it's like an old spy movie but with cute girls.

You see, that's the problem. The betrayal isn't exactly an original idea, but the series as a whole is so devoid of anything interesting that the betrayal became the only talking point.
The threads went from like 1 per week to nonstop after that episode. It kinda speaks for itself.

It wasn't "just awful". It was an enjoyable watch. It just didn't deliver on the relationships it spent most of the show developing, which is a common problem in anime.
