Last time, Kanade and Shouko were both shocked about Ema's elimination and could think of nothing wrong with her performance before going off to watch Akito perform for his chance to go move on. While he danced well both of them couldn't help but notice that he was still stonefaced until the very end when it was too little, too late.
Ema's teacher was unable to find her and coming across Kurisu and Miriam she asked if they'd seen her with Miriam saying that she was at the cafe but didn't want to be bothered. Kurisu found her as she was beating herself up over her elimination realizing that she'd let her victory in Japan go to her head. Telling her of some of the things she did wrong, Kurisu told Ema that her teacher realized she wasn't up to the task of coaching someone at Ema's level and Kurisu offered to teach her until she goes abroad. Though it took some convincing Ema eventually relented and agreed to go rejoin Kurisu's studio.
Kanade and Shouko then ran into Li Zixuan who told them that she had to withdraw due to injury explaining why she didn't make it through. Li didn't know how her teacher found out but wished the both of them luck while the pair noted that her injury was pretty obvious. On the drive into Manhattan the boy's results were posted and Akito didn't make the cut. However he didn't seem disheartened and realized this was just the start of things for him. Kanade could only reflect on how lucky she was as the final round was now within view.
I'm guessing her and Kanade will wind up at the same place since it'd be weird to make a big deal of introducing her and then do nothing down the road. Wonder if she'll be an actual competitive rival or if Kanade will be able to Sakura her too.
>porn artist draws attractive women Though nobody in the series beats Tamaki yet.
Holyland is one of those series I've yet to get around to reading so I don't really know what the similarities would be. That said I do like how there's actual tension here just because of how built up this has been. In story Kanade's been working on this one variation for a year and a half and on a meta level 2/3 of the story has been building up to this one moment. It's all very well done.
Jackson Cook
On one hand she's dedicated almost entirely to her one obsession to the near exclusion of everything else. On the other she has actual social skills.
>I don't really know what the similarities would be There aren't many similarities really it's just one of the internals monologues the MC has before a fight when hes getting "in the zone" that it reminded me.
>it'd be weird to make a big deal of introducing her and then do nothing down the road Not really. A thing you have to remember with this series is that it is *largely* realistic. That means, sometimes you'll meet with people you probably won't ever see again.
Sure although some liberties can still be taken and already have i.e. Kanade rooming with Andrea in Marseilles or Ema just happening to have been part of Sakura's mother's studio or the contemporary instructor getting pregnant just as Kanade starts taking those classes so Tamaki can return.
Portuguese girl might wind up in the Chloe/Maho tier of important secondary character but Evelyn seems set up to be important. Li too for that matter.
Lincoln Reyes
Li for sure, but I'm not really seeing it with the American. It seems clear to me that she was introduced to give Kanade a crisis of faith and FINALLY drop her wish of going to the Royal Ballet School.

James Stewart
Could be but really I guess you can never tell. Cuvie went through the trouble of doing concept sketches for all of Kanade's classmates and at the end only Shouko and Julia wound up actually sticking around or Rena just disappearing after like volume 3 or 4. On the flipside Maho just seemed like a throwaway name during the Japanese award ceremony but obviously she turned out not to be.
