this is a pretty good animu and it has a great english dub cast.
I'd somehow completely missed this franchise and only learned about mellyjelly in 2010, and thought it was just some indie jap game. Guess it was super popular all along though if it got an anime even as far back as 2003. Rolling on the dub turned out well too since the scene was smaller back then with less obnoxiously shitty voice actors.

the artstyle of the anime is more akin to the studio rather than the source. I'd say thats one big miss if anything. The original artstyle isn't bad at all, and pretty unique while also being completely adaptable to an anime format for not being too overly designed like most VNs. The studio's artstyle isn't bad, but it's just a miss for failing to popularize a unique art style.

I don't have a problem with their designs per se, rather it's just the characters just don't 'pop' as much as they did in the earlier designs which ruins a big part of their charm that despite the bleak and dark world they inhabited the character art was so vibrant and nice to look at instantly catching your eyes. The remake designs by comparison are cleaner and neat but significantly more bland and just don't look like they have the charm and personality as their originals. At least that's how I feel about it.

Shiki is the male MC from FGO with glasses, Ciel looks like someone dropped a mop on her head and called it a hair, Akiha is Rin with her hair down, the other ones (aside from Arcueid that I think everyone agrees looks like garbage) seem ok but they also suffer from the mop hair syndrome that Ciel suffers

Finally, someone who's watched and liked the anime.
Not exactly a good example of a VN adaptation but what convinced me not to go with "There is no Tsukihime anime" is that the music was placed well for certain scenes. Also, I felt that the English dub was more memorable than the Japanese dub because I really didn't think that the cast there, maybe except Hitomi Nabatame as Arcuied, fitted.
Play Melty and read the VNs. That's how you enjoy it to the fullest, otherwise there's no point.
