I feel like this type of character does not appear that much in shonen manga nowadays. But when they do, it's very satisfying when they finally do something badass. Komatsu from Toriko is a great example. He managed to become a central driving force behind the plot for some time.

The problem with previews of Dr Stone or even trying to explain the series to someone is that, besides Senku and Taiju, every other character's entrance is a spoiler. You can't mention Tsukasa without giving away that they make a revival fórmula in the second chapter, and mentioning the village is impossible. While it's obvious that the story will have more characters, any way to mention new characters spoils something. Now that Tsukasa took over the miracle cave and Kohaku appeared, the animators are free to show best boy Gen and understandably excited.

even to have a scale model the production sizing and metal work alone is a tall order especially when you have very few people working the irons a d industrial lathe. I mean I worked with my dad on just building metal and he had an industrial machine that took hours to make a small part. Imagine large parts. Screws, nuts. bolts and certain types of steel that wont rust while months on the sea. Its pretty tasking for all of this, so I blame the shonen "hard work= victory" trope here.

I honestly love the prologue and wish it was longer. I love everything after it just as much and it's great, but the simple sort of survival thing with the really isolated relationships (which makes Tsukasa come off as extra scary because everyone is so alone) interests me a lot. I would have liked more of that for sure, especially knowing that we get lots of people for the rest of the story.
