Not that interesting — it's plot based but the plot is nothing to wow at; it's just a "stuff happens" plot instead of a "woooow, epic plot twist I never saw coming what is this mysterious backstory and what is the master plan of these characters" plot.

Obviously in many ways stylistically it's similar to Attack on Titan with raging "I have known loss and am consumed by it" protagonist which does have a lot of mystery surrounding it with epic plot twists.

My take is that vikings need to answer for their crimes.

That is what the farm arc is about. I initially didn't like Thorfinn, although I sympathised with him. After his character growth though he is probably the best part of this series. Keep in mind that it is still quite a lot of time before anime gets to that point. Right now try rooting for Askeladd if you can.

Been following the manga for the past 10 years and really love everything about it (except what happens after Farmland).
I think adapting it chronologically was a good choice. It made first-time viewers more invested in Thors' character and made his death, and seeing how Thorfinn turns into what he feared most, more tragic.
If they did a flashback of Thorfinn's life like in the manga, it would've been a turn-off since we already know how Thorfinn turns out from being an innocent kid, and viewers would want the backstory to just be over quickly to see how the plot progresses.
What's great about the anime is that you can feel that the staff is pretty passionate about making a good adaptation out of it, and the filler scenes are really character-driven and adds to Thorfinn's character development, which I think the manga lacked in the prologue.
I just wish that the animation could be more consistent though, the latest one had a few well-animated scenes but still looked clunky.

As a whole it's a mixed bad and a confused mess.
Both the manga and anime is mostly carried by quality art and solid action.

I had to use a proxy service to buy it from Yahoo Japan Auctions (pretty much japanese eBay) and paid about $130 after shipping and proxy fees.
It's actually really freaking rare and near impossible to get unless someone from nipland puts it for sale. Only a few were exclusively sold at an event (WonderFestival) in Tokyo back in 2013 and I was just lucky to have come across it on Yahoo Japan Auctions (pretty much the Japanese equivalent of eBay) a few weeks ago and was the only bidder.
I plan to assemble and paint it sometime soon, but was also thinking of making some molds because I think it's an incredible shame that Vinland Saga doesn't have more merchandise.

Hopefully it won't be as rare with the anime coming out. WIT loves their western audience.

How does the Manga start?

Even with mythical creatures, the world follows a grounded idea of physics that are similar to our world. Except like 3 characters who just defy those physics completely. Unless Thors, Thorfinn, and Thorkell are all demigods that are blessed by Odin/Thor/Loki it just ruins immersion and world building. It's not fair when they can do crazy acrobatics and feats of strength when their enemies and side characters are grounded so hard to reality.

The point where the manga starts still hasn't come yet. Everything so far has just been a flashback.

Do you think in 30 years HxH will get an anime adaptation? No. Because no one will care about it. Vinland saga on the other hand got one, because people like it.
