I don't know why I still remember Chaika and her show from time to time but forget about other, newer shows.
What went right with Chaika?

The world it was set in was fantastic. The fayla were very interesting, I wish they would have done more with them though.

You should be able to find one in any forest that's populated with either unicorns of remains of ancient magicians.

Agree with , the initial worldbuilding was excellent, with interesting conflicting characters and themes (mainly about how a war leaves you with a bunch of sociopaths who are only useful on the battlefield).
Main characters were also not overpowered, which made every fight engaging as well.
Too bad it's been forgotten and we'll probably never get the novels officially translated in the West.

That whole LN volume was basically a reference to some different horror movies and games. Also from my memory anime changed a lot of things there.

Yeah, it's pretty good, but I didn't like the ending of it, just didn't feel that satisfying to me
