it's more of trailer for the manga which has a way way way way more fleshed out story watching this is like being a speedreader, you only watch it to get a general idea of the story and for the amazing animation

movie and manga are both amazing.

you thought it was shit because you have shitty taste and have no understanding of animation. akira is well animated. it has crazy special effects. it has an amazing soundtrack with gamelan type shit. yeah, it's not as fleshed out as the manga, but it's still awesome. also it has the best opening shot in all of cinema when the blood vessels and heart slowly turns into city streets with a downtown.

If you think it was shit because the story didn;t make much sense or introduced things that it didn't follow all the way through then that's right and you should read the manga to get the full picture.
