God I finally realized what recent chapters were missing with this one, the whole conspiracy and plotting segments were the best part of pre prison climax Kamuy and seeing them back for at least a chapter was refreshing. Just everyone trying to outplay other parties in the gold hunt was fun.

Feels like Hijikata got more out of the deal because Tsurumi has to make his traded cards work. Hijikata would be able to use the fake skins 100% against Asirpa's group while it could still work against Tsurumi only if he's there to know how to identify the fakes. He's also aware that Ariko is a double agent so that ruins the element of surprise if things went south but he can make him follow orders since he's under the guise of being a team player but Hijikata can also convert Ariko to his team in the mean time.

Hijikata's group is at a disadvantage because of their numbers so keeping the blind monkey would help even the balance of power. With this trade, you can say Hijikata's group is even better because they have Ariko's temporary allegiance and fake skins as additional assets.

Hijikata needs disposable troops to die in his final all out fight against the 7th for the gold. Both sides have accumulated plenty of named mooks that no longer serve much purpose beyond muscle. They'll all likely kill each other in the final clusterfuck for the gold.

Yeah knowing which skins are fake and having them all in your possession is pretty damn useful since you can no longer be tricked by them.

This chapter and the last one have been fucking great. While I do love the comedic nonsense weve been getting since its been sorely missing for awhile this shit where everyone playing smart and trying to underhand each other is what I love about this manga.

He was actually around way before. Remember when Hijikata and Ogata fought each other in that town run by those two rival gangs? He and his buddy who died were from the gang that Hijikata helped and they joined his group after their gang disbanded.

There's no reason for him to not hold on to at least one fake skin, he had to send a mix of real and fake ones anyway.

Hijikata did get one but that was the 6th one left in the house, you're definitely right about Tsurumi using one in the gambling house as bait. Didn't Hijikata already grab that one? So that would mean Tsurumi only had 4 fake skins to work with which means one of those is definitely real at the very least. The skins by themselves don't mean much without the code cracker (Asirpa) anyways so mixing a few real ones you copied already isn't much of a loss if it served a purpose.

That's exactly my point though, he's be a moron to just give up all his fake skins, especially since even if he gives hiji real ones, he'd have no way of knowing and would doubt them just as much.

Dunno how many skins are left to collect (or have they all been found now?) but it does feel like we're nearing the end. Only real 'interruption' I could see happening is whatever Sofia is planning to do (I imagine she'd just ally with Hijikata though as their motivations moreorless line up, right?)

what the fuck happened to all the goons Hijikata started with. he had a bunch of men in suits with guns and i only remember seeing one of them getting killed.

i thought he had a small army or crew of his own. now its a skeleton crew.
