Everything is best enjoyed in release order.

If you are actually going to read the manga you should read up until the motorball arc starts before watching the movie, but if you are going to put off watching the movie because you might read the manga some day that is a waste.

The movie is probably better enjoyed if you are already familiar with the plot because it is very rushed.

Just watch the movie, it was made for your kind.

Read the original manga, and forget that the OVA, sequels and movie even exist.

Read manga, watch movie, skip OVA

fpbp

Movie is better and fuck the manga and read origin by Boichi instead. Or watch GiTS anime movie

OVA. it's just a hour long, if you like it, continue with the manga, if you didn't, then manga's probably not for you.

The only thing they have in common is the name. Watch the movie if you want a popcorn flick.

There's like 30 volumes of manga. It will take you a while to catch up with the latest chapter. I'd recommend watching the movie first and if you like the setting and characters, then read the manga. It's a lot grittier, gorier and more cyberpunky than the movie, which in itself is basically PG13 version of the manga. Also, if you're going to read the manga, you absolutely MUST NOT bother with online readers. They've got the old, crappy looking scans which is an insult to Kishiro's amazing art. Nyaa should have the HQ scans.

>or watch GiTS anime movie
Eww. I mean, the animation is pretty groundbreaking when put in the context of the time period it was made in, but the plot is super dense for the amount of time it had. It felt like it was trying to pack over a century's worth of philosophy into a

Movie has the premise right, but is horribly acted, and alita is done wrong. i'd say avoid it.

/thread.

OP, that's the general rule you should ALWAYS follow.

don't watch the movie it's shit

You either haven't seen the movie or haven't read the manga. Alita is the one thing movie did unarguably right, and frankly even better than the manga.

Listen to this guy, OP. I would add that the OVA should be seen after the movie as it's really not that great by itself and is more entertaining as a companion piece.

Did both, and design aside, alita was awkward, dumb and very irrational.
There's a difference between being naive and being dumb, there's a difference between making the wrong choice to being outright irrational, and beyond all- rosa salazar's depiction was just weird. felt like a 40 year old woman in a 15 year old body.
The very unfitting voice might had something to do with it.

Disagree entirely. Watch it because it's bad. I went in with 0 expectations and it turned out to be the funniest movie I've watched in a while in the so bad it's good kinda way

Definitely not gundam

>he animation is pretty groundbreaking when put in the context of the time period it was made in
I don't know about groundbreaking, but it hasn't gotten any uglier or more common since.
