it's made canon AFTER gosho put it in the manga.

canon tier are manga, then gosho interviews, that's why his interviews and new year cards are (almost) archived in detail. as long as gosho doesn't put the information into the manga, it doesn't canon, that's the standard that's been held until now.

I've read the digital raw already. But feel free to post it if you have it.
The original says フットボウル好きの母より (futtobouru-zuki no haha yori). If the key is addition and subtraction, then the "futto" part might mean addition (足し算) which uses a kanji that also means "foot". Then the "bou" part may mean subtraction in some way. The syllable bou by itself can mean different things but I'm not sure if it may also have an additional meaning here.

I saw on a Japanese blog someone overlaid the 4 screens on top of each other and ended up with the roomaji letters Haido kou no dai 4 souko (Port of Haido #4 warehouse). Recall that Haido Harbor made an appearance in the flashback to Shin'ichi and Ran's childhood in vol. 55 when they were trying to solve a code left by the original Kaitou Kid. Still not clear if the "futto/bou(ru)" letters have any additional significance besides the addition and subtraction.

but you see these same groups pop up constantly in later episodes, did every group just delete half their fucking subs at random? i could understand changing subs every 10-20 episodes but to be this frequent there has to be a large scale fuckup of some kind

The batch torrents include different subs from different groups depending on which version is best for each episode. Some groups like Puto or baaro mostly took existing subs like Funi's and put them on better video sources like the remastered eps. For the subs in the seasons after Funi stopped subbing, several sub groups did overlapping work on the same seasons. Some of those earlier subs are of very poor quality because they were "translated" by people who didn't know much Japanese, some of them outright making up the dialogue. There have been efforts to go back and redo those, but the quality overall is a mixed bag.

what about the plain dvdrips then? the subs for these episodes were fucking atrocious and even as an eop i could tell they were just fucking wrong

222-224 is the only case that says "DVDrip" in the batch torrent I dl'd (1104407) but I don't see sub credits in the video, so I'm not sure where those came from.
The Funi subs go up to Jap episode 123 for what it's worth.

In the first 3 screens the bold part is "futto". In the 4th one it's "bou".
Normally the English word "football" is transliterated into Japanese as "futtobooru" (フットボール) not "futtobouru" (フットボウル). "Bou" doesn't directly relate to subtraction in the way that "futto" does to addition (since "to add" uses the kanji for foot/leg). Subtraction is written 引き算 which uses the kanji "to pull".
If you just say the syllable "bou" by itself with no context it sounds like the word for "stick" (as in the long skinny object). The minus symbol "-" looks like a stick but I don't know if that's the answer. Other kanji that have the pronunciation "bou" are all on'yomi parts of compound words and need another kanji to make sense.

I think so too. It's possible there might be some other hidden meaning to highlighting the "bou" in "bouru" but changing the whole line to something unrelated will erase that. I'd stay on the safe side and transliterate it at least until the solution to the code is confirmed.

The action of the movies barring that stupid car stunt on the tracks in M22 is really great, the problem is it just doesn't feel like Conan. The manga is usually more down to earth even on a grand scale like when the Organization plans an assassination. It's fun to see the DC characters in climactic situations in the films but there's a clear difference between the action in it and the manga. I've seen the punching scene for M23 and it looks like they went the extra mile to do what M22 did but worse with the ultra effects. I am concerned about the action in the next movies since they have always wanted to outdo themselves every year. At some point even without being attached to the Conan IP it might just be inexcusable. I really don't expect them to reign themselves in because they have no reason to, but I hope they hit their limit soon on how bullshit crazy things can get.
