Peak Lupin by the way.
Secret of Mamo really turns into a mess in the third act. Goddamn Mother Brain shows up out of nowhere and fucks off back to space and the movie just kind of ends.
Still a really good movie, though.
>Don't worry, he's not psychic, he's just got super human hearing and using echolocation.
>Also here's a clone of Leonardo Da Vinci made from the collective brainwaves of Italy. He can control dreams.
What is the appeal of this ""shounen""
you have to be italian to fully appreciate it
it nails the perfect pulpy mix of corny and badass.
the characters are all likeable and memorable, the stories are fun and creative, and being a series rooted in the past while costantly moving forward make it so that there is something to be enjoyed by basically every one.
what's there not to like would be my question.
Where should I start when wanting to watch this series?
Yeah just forget about anything 2000s Lupin, it was a dark phase
season 2 and season 4 are considered good starting point, at least if you want to get an idea of whether you would enjoy it
alternatively you can watch some of the highly rated movie like mamo or cagliostro
season 1 is the best imo
So is Fujiko Mine the peak of what a woman can aspire to be?
There isn't a single terrible character, the main character is endearing, and the soundtrack provided by Yuji Ohno is kino. Also Cagliostro
>Also Cagliostro
Never liked Cagliostro. It was an okay movie, but it had so little to do with Lupin III that you could replace the main character and nobody would know it was ever supposed to have anything to do with the franchise.
Manga translations when!?
He's a nice man.
That part had me laughing my ass off, Lupin is either extremely good or the best kind of bad
Part 1 or the ghibli movie
>ywn see a woman resembling Fujiko irl
Anywhere, all you really need to watch any lupin show/movie outside of a couple (and even then you're mostly fine, with ONE major exception which is Green vs Red, which is a huge esoteric love letter to Lupin as a whole.) is to know the general premise of the 5 main characters.
I feel bad for Zenigata.
Now that he has defeated the incarnation of Italian consciousness and Facebook, what's next for Lupin?
Pardon me, but Lupin is seinen
>that manga chapter where Lupin tricked Zenigata into thinking he's cryogenically frozen himself, so Zenigata froze himself to save the robots in the future.
Zenigata is pretty much just a puppy who's chasing after cars. If he ever catches one he's completely lost.
>that episode where Zenigata thinks Lupin is really going to be executed
>he's so nervous and restless and wondering why Lupin doesn't escape already
>when he finally does Zenigata is genuinely happy and relieved
so wholesome.
Fun fact, the episode similar to that in part 1, I think it's maybe the second episode? is pretty much directly an adaptation of one of the Arsene Lupin short stories.
It was obviously made on drugs so the third act fit with the tone
>the episode similar to that in part 1, I think it's maybe the second episode
I was talking about that episode. The one where Lupin lets his beard grow and eventually disguises himself as one of the guards.
I still don't get why so many people are piss off with Leonardo. I think it was cool to have him as a villain, considering Da Vinci was a real-life Gary Stu. The execution could be better? Yeah but I still liked it
Oh yeah, I forgot that Zenigata was like that in that one. But yeah, pretty much straight up taken from the short stories. It's neat.
Episode 4. It is amazing.
Many say that the first few episodes of part 1 are too seinen, and that lupin was truly created only once miyazaki and takahata changed the tone of the series, but to me they are wrong, since this episode incapsulates the essence of what is the appeal of lupin like very few others do.
The ending, where where Lupin and Jigen after having just barely escaped death and having seen the treasure get blown up right in front of them, laugh it all off sardonically and run off into the sunset towards new adventure, is one of the most endearing pieces of entertainment I have ever experienced.
Lupin had a lot of wacky shit from the start. Monkey Punch only really stopped being super wacky when Lupin himself did something pretty dark, and then it never stuck around for long.
But part 1 was definitely conceived as a show for adults, probably the first anime to aim for them.
What I really don't understand is why Lupin would get the death penalty if he ever got caught. Has he actually done THAT much besides stealing?
He's killed a lot of people. Like, a lot of people. He basically napalms and entire populated island once, he shoots God knows how many people, his most recognizable accessory is a handgun, I can imagine at this point death is fair.
He's shot a bunch of people and outright blown up buildings, bridges, helicopters, fortresses, vaults, and many other millions-worth structures, sometimes in the middle of populated cities too.
He once raped a woman as an interrogation technique in the manga.
Lupin's done some fucked up shit.
But he's a nice man.
Oh never mind then

RUPIIIIII~N
I agree that the cast is great and well developed for an episodic show. I also agree that Lupin himself is charming, multifaceted, and complex. The animation is also very expressive and nice, even in the very dated installments.
But the music in Lupin sucks. The OP is literally the MC's name repeated a bunch of times
>The OP is literally the MC's name repeated a bunch of times
He's just such a chad that anything else would be inadequate.
There are several sets of lyrics to go along with the main theme.
So, what's up with Zenigata's voice actor? He sometimes sounds like he's falling asleep in the mic, but other times he sounds great. Is it even the same dude every time?
Well Goro Naya died in 2013. But until then he voiced him most of the time. I think the Fuma Conspiracy was the main time he didn't.
You're making me miss modern lupin the third.
Yeah, I'm Italian and I watched it as a kid, I would say it's more known than something like naruto or one piece, while in the us it's seen as an underground thing
