Anime budgets are pretty low; a few million dollars at most. Conversely, AAA 3D titles have a budget in the tens of millions.
It's really not that bad, tracking is good and we'll have the power and display technology to make it look seamless in a couple of years.

VR is (will be) good for interactive stuff.
Read up some write ups from non interactive VR content creators how it's complicated to focus people's attention to where important shit happens when people have a world they can look around.
Now imagine typical speedw/a/tcher and you have a recipe for disaster.
Second concern is budget.
When you actually have to model / animate everything without the possibility to cover up your lack of budget the usual anime way results won't be good.
Of course you can still use the gear as a HMD and pretend to watch on gigantic cinema screen.
