It's more like flashing particle effect assets but yeah this scene (and it's mainly a 2 minute scene, not the episode) is basically another distillation of a bunch of things weebs are already known to love. You've got like the crying suffering cute imouto character eventually doing something cool, the protagonist facing down his toughest foe yet and suddenly the camera is spinning all around them and everything is just kind of flashing and sparking pointlessly in CGI enchanced fashion and then you've got the big pump up vocal insert song by a guy who is a known entity (and I'm mostly surprised it was Go Shiina and not Kajiura or Sawano yet again) for making them going into a cliffhanger. Presto, a bunch of weebs calling it AOTD among many others that have done this before and 5 star ratings across the board until the next time it happens.

IMO Nier Automata was basically this in game form as a strong example of how easy it is to do all this with today's anime audience. Just an utter distillation of everything weebs love and people looking to be cool and trendy helping amplify it's reach until something that was barely a successful franchise before is popular enough to get into the latest Final Fantasy game as a Raid quest. The production houses that can afford it in Japan are going to be milking this whole strategy for years, I've even seen people commenting about it on 2ch and how technically well produced yet painfully formulaic some of these shows and scenes are getting now. Like I can appreciate the effort by the audio visual team but it just registers as corporate Hollywood mass appeal produced content to me all the same.

The plot is generic.
The characters are generic, and at times outright a chore to deal with. Inosuke is the exception; he's genuinely entertaining.
Yes, the animation is good.
Somehow, it all adds up to more than the sum of its parts. Everybody involved in this project is clearly trying their absolute best, and the result is worth watching.
It's a quality shounen, and deserves more adaptations.

I honestly think Aniplex is playing another stealth marketing game again. It's about as natural as when Kaguya-Sama became popular because of a dance sequence and Darling in The Frankxx was suddenly the most talked about mecha series outside of Japan in like a generation despite doing absolutely nothing compelling or original enough to warrant it. Maybe even less so since it's super late in the shows run and it people were talking about it but not nearly this much and in such high praise.

It's literally always an Aniplex show, always in their Saturday Night slot that's known as the "hegemony slot" in Japan because it's seen consistently the most trendy shows in online circles for the 2010's and it's almost always centered around something involving music and a CD or Blu-Ray they are about to release at a time when it benefits them the most to have something trending like right before or after it's publicly available.

My favorite example of this by far is the the totally not a Monogatari clone show Bunny Girl sempai coming from absolutely nothing and no buzz by a studio they'd just founded becoming a major talking point outside of Japan. Japanese fans were actually utterly baffled as to how Western weebs could hold that show in such high regard. They've also been kind of confused by Kaguya-Sama though not as much. It's not that these shows aren't popular in Japan at all, they just can't understand why people would ever consider them the single unequivocally best thing airing in their given seasons.

Visually it's an amazing Anime. It's polished without being generic.
The story goes nowhere fast, though. It feels like these last three, smaller arcs, doctor npc, tomtom, and spider, should have been replaced with one, large arc that had plot significance and character development.
Also, Fire boy tofunami was an absolutely beautiful sequence. It's just a shame that it was wasted on a villain who's literally less than a full episode old.

Yeah then they did the weepy sad backstory with vocal insert thing with Zero Two that works every single time in getting a show trending in the anime fandom on social media and people thought was actually going to matter for the overall story and for about a month into it's second half it was held in ridiculously high regard by the fandom.

Of course unsurprisingly none of it was really relevant in the end and just an application of a proven devastatingly effective hook to keep people watching into it's second season. The show might have been mostly enjoyed ironically for the sex chatter, fanservice and the NTR waifu wars shitposting up until that point, but the chatter about that stretch of episode was clearly for real. It has the same sort of hyper inflated number of votes and high ratings (Nearly 94% 5 star and 2,500 voting ) for that key episode on MAL as Kimetsu does for it's most recent episode and people legit thought they were witnessing the emergence of the next great mecha sci-fi classic because the waifu character of the show had a sad back story scene with a sad song playing over it. Then of course they immediately went on to fuck it all up next episode by pissing of the waifu fags of the hands down most popular character and marketing point of the show by going back to the NTR shit with the not popular waifu and I honestly still to this day don't know what they were thinking when they had just gotten people eating out of the palm of their hand again with another medicore show.

Let me put it this way, its such a well known formula that I basically knew the flashy action scene had a vocal insert song and that it was within a couple weeks of being released as a single in Japan before I even checked out what all the fuss was about. People are obviously voting for the Sakuga, the insert song and the perceived emotional content of the key scene and not the episode or even show itself and it is what it is, but that's kind of all that it is.

Yeah well video game style CGI animation has been shitting on the TV anime industries output for much of this console generation now and that's basically how ufotable produces it's shows. ufotable was never really a thing before it adopted this style of animation and produced some pretty mediocre looking stuff like Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight and Coyote Rag Time show.

It's probably because Yea Forums has to keep up it's whole anti-Yea Forums thing so people here probably don't play a lot of video games but this is just kind of how anime themed JRPG's have looked for a while now. They use a lot of filtering to give it that flatter 2D look so it can function as a TV show.

Man this show was so fucking bad. At least Kimetsu no Yaiba kind of has a tolerable enough cast and plot that makes sense in it's own context. It's still like 80% animation and music/20% everything else, but compared to Kabaneri's 99% animation and music/ 1% everything else and it's comes off much better for it all the same. Kabaneri was basically just straight marketing for Egoist albeit not as much as Guilty Crown was so I can't say I'm surprised though.

KnY itself might be shit but it's unironically one of the best adaptations we've ever seen.

Kabaneri was also basically made because Amazon needed immediate content and attention for it's now basically failed Amazon Strike service that's been rolled back into Amazon Prime so they partnered up with Aniplex and Wit Studio to make a surefire modest hit with a renowned character designer, composer and one of the shittiest writers I've ever seen work in the industry that somehow managed to get onto a lot of popular anime that were all carried hard by production values and marketing. Somehow his partner Hiroyuki Yoshino is noticeably even worse which is kind of mind boggling yet so fitting. It's at least better than Guilty Crown possibly but that's hardly saying much.

This is somehow the Yea Forumsest post on a page that's basically full of them. It has it all, the refusal to admit to actually liking something to try to retain hipster cred with the whole at the same time contradictory statement of what I can assume to mean "but ackshuually I really liked the sakuga and insert song" since there have been long sequences where people have called this show boring and plodding.

Whenever there's sakuga scenes and insert songs and big hype moments it's the greatest thing ever and everyone is rushing to the internet to profess how a show is the best whatever, but if it has a comedy or a transitional episode with the standard BGM and shonen plotting nobody really gives all that much of a shit. It's kind of business as usual for this type of show.

Obviously Ufotable elevates a lot of the material but honestly I do see Yaiba as more than just a pretty face, Wani's sloppy storytelling and all. I really like everything she introduces to the story, I just wish she rearranged where those things were introduced. Tanjirou has slowly become one of my favorite protagonists in a shounen though. A strong lead can carry you through some mediocrity.

I started the anime without having read the manga and heard about this being canon. After episode 19, I read the entire manga up until now and I can say this is not canon in any way. I even read the two-part side story about Giyuu where Shinobu appears too, and no real hint about anything going on.

The last episode had nothing more than good animation. Flashbacks at the verge of death are a bad way to convey power ups in a character. The same goes for nezuko that up until now never even apeared like she could use blood technique and all of a sudden she can use one that burns the steel like string. It might be a good show with good animation but whoever is writing it has no idea how to convey someone getting stronger. It will not surprise me if by the end of the manga tanjirou uses the dance of the sun god to kill muzan because he totally knows how to use that because he totally learned the dance of the fire god from his magic earrings

Viz didn't pick the series at first. When they took it, they immediately started translating from chapter 60ish, completely losing the context of earlier chapters. Then there's them not translating Pig Assault and changing it to Coming through. Inosuke's catchphrase had kanji for boar and they abandoned it completely. Also remember when Zenitsu monologued about feeling something familiar in the labyrinth? Viz translated that familiar thing as Muzan while we know that it's not Muzan because Zen hasn't meet him, it's actually foreshadowing for Kaigaku. Also as I said before, the covered Tanjirou with Luffy in one of the promo art.

As I said before, fuck viz. For kimetsu at least. For bokuben they are not as bad as LRR's biased translation.

In my experience, Viz translations seem very hit or miss depending on the series. Sometimes they're absolutely on point and better than fan translations and other times they're doing shit like still using "Zolo" in One Piece. Must just come down to who's handling the series I guess.

The great characters and the high stakes Wani built around the upper moons is what really did it for me. She isn't afraid to maim or kill characters, and there isn't any magical way to heal that.
