It's just flashback, determination powerup, and those happen in KnY all the time. And sometimes the flashbacks do the opposite and depower certain characters.

Putting characters into unwinnable situations can be fun to write but then you always need to asspull them out unless they are allowed to die and all tension dies with it.

The reason i have it saved is because his screaming made me drop the show, it's garbage.
He lived instead though, he was surrounded by threads he said himself he couldn't cut. It doesn't matter if he didn't get the kill, he survived a situation he shouldn't have.
And if he had been killed, the series would be over for sure. Plot armor since he's the mc and there's nothing to do about it. Other characters might have been killed under the same circumstances anyway.
