O MY FIRE DANCE notwithstanding, the presentation of the whole thing was somehow the most powerful bit of storytelling I've seen from a Jump adaptation this decade. I've read the whole manga, and my biggest problem with it has been the convenience of some flashbacks. I enjoy almost every plot point introduced but I wish they had more time to develop before the payoff. That being said Tanjirou is such a great protagonist that he carries you through a lot of the weaker storytelling.

It was convenient but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's bad. Flashbacks are more than just contrivances in Yaiba, they're kind of a thematic thing. They themselves are payoffs rather than just set ups for payoffs. You have Tanjirou's earrings, Shinobu's words, and the prior use of memories at death's door as reference for the moment mostly working. I kind of waffle on Yaiba's use of flashback, Wani definitely blew it with Kaigoku and the see-through world, even if the latter was a really good flashback. However the material introduced in this flashback was so good it carried itself through despite some suddenness.

The execution is nearly flawless.

The fate/ routes they're adapting are easily better than kimetsu, especially if you cut a lot of the padding from Nasu's writing. Zesteria or god eater I've no clue, but they seemed shitty.

No one is denying this, for moral conflict to have anykind of genuine weight, both sides should be justify, it serves as nothing but self wank when villains are written to be be purely retarded with no valid justifications for their positions.
It doesn't matter how long ago the villian and his motivations where established, what matter is how well throughout are they, and in the case they aren't in the slightest.

When I say its phoned and forced I mean all of it, since the villians where introduced, the conflict is so shallow, they can't even argue with repeating themselves, the moral delima is just that vapid, the bad guy are just wrong, and the good guys are just right.

Well it is an Aniplex produced anime and they have a long history of stealth marketing and shilling campaigns on social media for shows they produce and are rather blatantly partnered with Crunchyroll and ANN for that little extra kick for buzz as well. That said this episode was considerably above average animated, especially for a TV show nearly 20 episodes into it's run, but it's still not that far-fetched to believe there's some shilling going on the side as well.

The fact that it's yet another flashy animated action scene with a vocal insert song that has weebs losing their minds again is also very telling. That's almost guaranteed to work every single time in getting the weeb base to lose it's fucking shit. Especially if the animation studio appears to give an actual fuck in directing the scene.

The only really difference being that we WILL get a flashback, every-time so boring 1 dimensional demon dies, cause they remember their life before.
And yes, the fact that we get them everytime, does in fact make flashbacks as a narrative tool, so much worse.

In other shows, a character is will be establish as interesting with tons of depth and actually justified position, the reader will WANT to see a flashback, to know how they got there.

In the case of yaiba the bad guys are monster of the week tier, we aren't made to care about them, there moral position aren't ever justified, they are 1 dimensional.

This episode only makes me think that anime>>>>manga as a medium.

It's really flashy with lots of added CGI effects and stuff though which really does go a long way with todays anime audience. When people were hyping that episode through the roof I was expecting like a whole episodes worth of Sakuga myself and it's mainly at the end for the insert song (almost as if it's mainly to market it like a music video) and it's more just well above average for TV anime of late than greatest thing I've ever seen, but I'm not exactly surprised other than it was well animated "for TV" animation at all. I've seen a lot of stuff across a lot of different genre's and formats, not just TV anime like with most weebs nowadays who get their daily doses via Crunchyroll's feeds.

My take was kind of this looks like a sequence from a JRPG more than your standard TV anime. Not just one of the ufotable animated ones for Bandai Namco games, any of them really that are in HD, have a decent budget and use the anime CGI art style.

TV Anime doesn't really look like that sequence on average anymore since the 2010's, even in openings and endings where directors have gotten lazy as all fuck and just tend to show character pans and names. It's kind of sad that it stands out that fucking much, but it honestly kind of does for a TV anime post 2012 or so. I also honestly just think you could slap a decent vocal insert song onto literally any flashy piece of animation in an episode and generate a lot of buzz, particularly when every other show out there has kind of been shitting the bed for most of the year and barely even trying.

So yeah it's VERY weeb pandering playbook. Almost painfully so, albeit well executed. I can't really knock it, but I can't call it anything trend setting for Japanese animation either having spent a fuck ton of time around this sort of stuff in recent JRPGs. Anime fans have just been kind of trained to expect far far less from the medium.

The threads since the episode aired have been utter shit. Hopefully they lose interest soon.

I'm confused by this concept of an Aniplex produced show where the characters aren't all raging assholes engaging in non stop self loathing and "muh suffering" myself. It's been a while since that sort of thing seemed to have happened where the tone isn't just pitch bleak all the fucking time. I'm not surprised though that edgy anime fans are all pissy any time this show has some more light hearted comedy scenes. IMO it's practically breath of fresh air for this sort of thing.

Anyway I'd kind of disagree though, if anything the fact that it's based on a manga that's accessible in content to every day people (Yea Forums would tell you this is a bad thing based on no particular valid reason though) is why it's any good at all for a show that airs at midnight on a Saturday and that manga on average is better than typical late night anime or light novels.

And this is why I kind of don't buy that Yea Forums would claim to like this show for real. emma is the most stubborn character in his series because she ill never back down when things dont go their way, even if it means ruinning everythingthe others characters have planned, but the manga is written in a way so everything emma does will always be te correct answer.

He was just written to act that way for the sake of plot connivence so he could lose the fight, it's just bad writing period.

They also tend to learn something in the long run and show some level of growth and personal improvement or their actions catch up to them karma wise, which is something that stands well apart from your average light novel cast for example where there's almost this celebration of being a flat out shit character that no sane person would ever actually want to hang around with aside from them being conventionally attractive design wise cause of the artist who has nothing to do with writing their character unlike with manga.

The only instance in the fight it which it's narratively justified that he doesn't is when he wishes to bargain with nezuko.
He then takes nezuko and so there's no longer any reason for that, that reassert that his trying to kill him, then proceeds not to when he clearly can just because the plot demands it.

It's not a matter of not being urget, every attack prior if landed would've killed him, if they wanted to pretend like he just doens't want to be urgent, then none of his attacks should've been deadly in the first place.

I like the show, but I'll give you credit for making valid arguments and the people you're arguing with are doing a poor job of debating you as they keep deflecting to other things.

It doesn't matter when they thought of it, the reader can never actually tell when.

Again, this is untrue and all you need to do is pay attention to what you’re watching. Its use of flashback, particularly the ones for demons, is very deliberately a part of how the show treats death. Them being a consistent presence after or before death isn’t just a tool for quick sympathy.

I think the action peaked in Red Light District, not that the current has been bad, it's been an improvement in some aspects like the art. Red Light was just the perfect mix and timing, it was after an arc where things went about as south as they could so the stakes felt really high, and the battle was about as brutal/hard earned as one could ask for.

Probably cause they make like literally one TV show a year if that and most of their work is in doing cutscenes for Bandai Namco JRPG's that have given them plenty of experience in animating this sort of blended CGI heavy content. Modern anime fans are just kind of trained to expect mediocrity in animation by studios that do the absolute bare minimum because most shows are produced week to week by studios whose production line and staff are so overstretched and lacking in any real talent that they're forced to take shortcuts and put out mediocre work just to meet their deadlines.

ufotables entire production schedule for the last five years consists of 3 movies (all part of the same Fate project), 4 TV shows (God Eater, Tales of Zestiria X, Touken Ranbu and Kimetsu) and 8 instances of opening animation and some cutscene work for God Eater, Tales of and Code Vein games. That's it. Your average animation studio probably ends up doing at least that in a single calendar year and probably more. It's almost like if you focus all of your potential into one thing that results may show.

Of course people can just go with memes like they have Unlimited Budget Works, but no it's literally a factor of time and also clearly a lot of effort was focused into this episode to help promote that insert song.

It's mind blowing to me how bad people are at realizing how much blended CGI goes into ufoTABLE works and how far along that technique has come especially in anime style video games. You literally wouldn't be able to do those 3D spinny action scenes they love to shoot in any reasonable amount of time without it, but have it be an traced CGI model asset like an Arc System Works game and suddenly your job is that much easier.

I don't know man there's almost no point in trying to talk to the modern anime fanbase about anything to do with animation anymore. Tanjirou's overall goal is to change his sister back into a human but also to defeat Muzan for slaughtering his family and turning Nezuko into a demon. Tanjirou even flat out later says that he hates demons, but they were once human so he can't completely hate them as much as others do. It depends on the demon's personality, obviously some of them are just psychotic, but Tanjirou tends to show sympathy towards demons. Look at the spider mom, like he was going to hardcore execute her but at the last moment gave her a gentle death because he realized that she wasn't necessarily bad but was being forced to kill others because her son is a lesser moon that was basically threatening her. Also her husband was beating her but only because the lesser moon son was controlling all of them through fear.

Obviously I don't think Tanjirou needs to show any compassion for the lesser moon brat since he's clearly a sadistic piece of shit.

This. If this cutscene was in a game like most of ufotable and Arc System Works stuff of late that does this kind of stuff all the time nobody would really give a shit. Not saying it's not well animated, but all it does is show me how fucked your average Crunchyroll, Reddit and MAL kids perspective and expectations are nowadays. It's weird too because I thought these sorts of people play video games too, but maybe I overestimated the level of crossover and people being able to connect the dots here. It's literally anime video game cutscene style animation with a video game music composer in a TV series though......take it or leave it but I'm surprised nobody else besides ufoTABLE has ever really tried this. I've been saying for years how much more appealing your average anime JRPG's model and cutscene animation looks this generation compared to "actual anime", and for a while now too, so it's pretty rich that suddenly people have woken up a little to it even if only kind of sub-consciously. I'll never understand why anime fans always try to put stuff on a pedestal either, but it's something I don't really miss from my more active forum and fandom interaction days. I guess for those "Very online" sorts of people without doing that it wouldn't really hold much meaning to them since they don't actually seem to actually absorb and provide insight into any of the stuff they watch anymore. It's why everybody always piles into liking and praising one show and creates echo chambers environments about them where discussing the specifics, hows and why's of one's supposed fandom is all but impossible. Like I'll be honest, I kind of like "anime" stuff nowadays more because it sometimes makes me laugh at the exaggerated tropiness of it all where every other female character is the personification of somebodies perfect ideal dream girl and/or coolest person around. I also like a good JRPG to pass the time. I love how despite the anime fandom's profession that they hate things like Weekly Shonen Jump/Magazine and Isekai anime, the most watched and beloved shows of basically every season for most of this decade have been precisely those kinds of shows. Things like Gintama, Jojo, MHA, Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball Super, Black Clover, Naruto/Boruto, Mob Psycho 100, Dr. Stone, One Piece, Fire Force, SAO, Fairy Tail, Hunter x Hunter, Re:Zero, Reincarnated as a Slime, Food Wars, Rising of Shield Hero and so on are the bread and butter of anime content and fandom that always draw the most views, biggest controversies and often highest ratings. I don't understand why people try to claim otherwise and greentext about it like it means anything when the evidence overwhelming speaks for itself.

So whenever the writer writes a scenario in which the MC is about to be killed, I know he won't die on a meta level, regardless of whatever is happening. So when they write tanjiro to say "woah i'm totally gonna die right now!", 500 times, as i reader i intrinsically know that won't happen.
It's predictable, and this line of though applies to a lot of what happens in this show.

So it's predictable that he wont die, but whatever bullshit the writer chooses to pull out of their ass to save him is unknown to me, so i know he'll live, but I don't know how it will be written.

shonen battle manga does this all the time, they establish some sort of rule, or dynamic to the battle to make winning a fight not just mean who gets killed, This way they can have all the absurd and dangerous action they want without the lives of the mc being a stake because we already know they aren't allowed to die.

If this manga where trying to be less predictable, they could've made it so the spider villians goal was to capture tanjiro for example and in order to that he has to incapacitate him, therefore the MC's death is never at stake, the story could continue wether he gets captured here or not, so as a reader there's no way for me to instantly know tanjiro will get out of this.
