Its weird. The general setting and scenario they are in is interesting, but so far every single character is like a cardboard cutout with one or two personality traits taped onto them to remind us who they are.

I want to like Fire Force, but every character moment they give us so far just comes off as shallow and grating.

Like, Shinra works as a character KIND OF in that here you have this guy that wants to be seen as a hero specifically because so far most people see him as some kind of monster instead. Yeah, I don't think that's true. I saw Jojo discussion on Yea Forums before the anime and I started reading the manga before the anime started too. At the same time though, the 2012 anime brought tons of people on board that had either never heard of Jojo or didn't care enough to start it even with the part 3 OVA existing before. Having an OVA series is nowhere near the pleb magnet that a seasonal TV series is.

I discovered all 3 of those thanks to their anime adaptations, as did a lot of people outside of Japan, so they definitely count. And the reason they decided to animate that part and spoil the ending is precisely because the audience was big enough that they could just count on them for sales (and they were not cheaply made). That is the opposite of no one caring.

Well as far as I know the Gunsmith Cats "adaptation" is an original story. That really isn't an adaptation and while I'm not sure what other word you could really use, I feel strange calling something that covers a very small amount of a manga an adaptation. The part 3 OVA covers some of part 3 (and started in the middle of part 3 even) but that's a small part of a single part of the overall Jojo story. Same with YKK. Its anime covers like 10 chapters maybe out of nearly 150 chapters. Not that I think people didn't care about Jojo before the 2012 adaptation (that's something animeonlies say to make themselves not feel late to the party) but the 2012 anime is an actual Jojo adaptation rather than some short OVA that cherrypicks content, which is a problem I have with pretty much all OVA "adaptations".
