While Diego was abused by the other workers, he had his mother who loved and encouraged him. He still became a bastard, but he was a bastard willing to help others.

It's not like Dio and Diego are particularly different. They're both guys from bad upbringings willing to do anything to get ahead, while trying to keep up appearances until they don't need to anymore (except Diego never had a stone mask moment, because getting Scary Monsters didn't solve his desire to win the race).

It pisses me off how good Part 3 DIO was initially set-up to be, being more introspective and philosophical than he was in Part 1. He also had a sense of humor and was fairly affable to loyal followers. He was still evil but his talk with Polnareff on the stairs suggested there was more going on with him than just him going mad with power and doing whatever he wanted. Then, Jotaro shows up and because we can't have a complex villains in early shonen, he's quickly reduced to an even more arrogant and crazed version of his Part 1 self. God what a waste. Could have easily been best Dio.

I dont mind DIO having the same personalott as part 1. The problem is that he only he shows up at the very ending and utterly despises the crusaders unlike in part 1 where he ended up respecting Jonathan.

Jonathan was particularly noble to him and even though his abilities were handicapped compared to a vampire, his virtues, perserverance and selfishness pushed him forward and made Dio lose.
Of course Dio respects Jonathan and not the crusaders. What did Jotaro do? He only developed a deus ex machina stand and then broke his leg while saying a shitty one liner
