Every anime should reveal enough for a viewer to start caring about a character. How hard is it to understand? Do you really care about Kuon who we know nothing about except that she fights for her sister? Do you care about Nene and her mom despite the fact that even Nene herself wasn't visibly hurt after the defeat and losing the chance to save her mom?
Not a single anime reveals all of its mysteries right from the beginning. But they at least show something so the viewer can grow attachment to the characters.

For the same reason Granbelm exist, nobody wants to be ruled by a superior mage. They could've ruled the world but eventually a war for the power would've break out, so confining the magic and the war to a single closed space seems like a great idea on paper. We don't even know if someone has won the Granbelm before and what implies winning it.

Even Anna didn't kill Ernesta in the real world even though she probably had lots of opportunities to do so. Her axe swinging in the latest episode was simply a rage outburst and not an intentional attempt to remove her opponent from GARNBELM.
Considering they are not even trying to hide their identities I think there is something that prevents them from killing each other. But like lots of things in this anime it was not explained yet (or most likely will never be explained).

I think that besides fucking Anna's personality Shingetsu also may be underestimating the granbelm system by using a shard in place of actual magical stone, I think it may be impossible for her to solve Anna's crisis with tools she possesses right now, not because Anna's bruteforcing it with that big stone but because it will create an opening for Suishou, thing Suishou may be aiming by making Anna go berserk, I think Shingetsu may also go down here because it was also foreshadowed that Shingetsu may not remain until the very end, as Mangetsu predicted they will never end up fighting each other witch is theoretically unavoidable if both remain to the end.
