Nah man. Danny may be a better/nicer person, but he's far from "way more interesting". The reason why he ended up replacing JonTron is because he's a Yes Man. He puts up with Arin's shit and basically agrees with him on everything.

I think he also said at some point that he has ADHD or something. He might just not have the concentration to animate anymore, instead opting for something that can be done off the cuff with a quick/better pay-off.

Not that I blame him. The reason Let's Plays blew up in the past few years is because the Youtube algorithm rewards them. I think the idea is that the longer people watch your video, the more ad revenue you get. A Let's Play can easily be pumped out on a daily basis and keeps everyone watching for 10-20 minutes. Compare an animation, which can take weeks to write/voice/animate yet only keeps the audience entertained for 5 minutes. This algorithm is also why eventually Pewdiepie (Let's Player who uploads daily) overtook Smosh (sketch show with 10 minute episodes once a week) as the most subscribed channel.

I'd say it's partially a problem because this algorithm punishes creativity and rewards low effort content (though I'm not saying Let's Plays take zero effort, you at the very least need to be an entertaining and charismatic person to keep people coming back for more).

I sort of agree, but it's also funny when Arin is really mad at the game and Danny just laughs at him. But every time Danny tells a story, it's the most boring shit ever and he could never carry the show without someone like Arin around.

Admittedly I don't watch it anymore but when I did Dan's stories of his travels and his insight on certain things was my favorite part of the show. I also did just find him way funnier than Arin too.

As far as animation goes it's probably not nearly as fun to slave away at it as it is to do all the other shit he can do with GG revenue. When I was still watching they had started up a new band along side Dan's which was taking off, they were experimenting with live-action content, they were touring for those bands and live GG shows, Arin seemed to enjoy running what could be considered a company as opposed to the small time Let's play channel it started out as.

Looking back those flash animators were in their early 20s drawing like kids and all of them retired by 30 went to become lets players

Don't be sad that they're all washed up now, be glad that we were a part of such an amazing explosion of creativity. The internet had just really opened up to kids and rampant piracy meant they could get their hands on the software they needed to express themselves. You can draw parallels between the software piracy that allowed the flash/photoshop phenomenon and the LA riots that led to EDM and hip-hop. It really was an amazing time to experience.

It's just sad a lot of these kids who did have potential never take the medium forward.
It was fun while it lasted though,. you are right. I still talk to some friends from NG, use the art portal there and I even use the flash cs3 that I got from a friend from there for professional work.

As others have said, there just wasn't another platform like Newgrounds for them to grow on. Youtube and Twitch are what's popular and they just don't work for animators. Oney is making a videogame, though, even if he's mostly a letsplayer now. So there's that. And Filmcow is still doing animation, even if he does it very slowly now.
