Yes. I don't know if you have read he manga, but her intuition will be decisive in the future in the middle of a critical situation.
Also I have no idea why the anime in episode 1 changed that it was actually her idea to hop from one planet to another to forage for food and water, because she remembered a game she played in her childhood.

As for why they changed it, I think because they wanted to make it more the groups idea than just her.

It's weird, since they featured Aries' flashback in the Opening.
The manga is only 5 volumes, and there is a lot of stuff that had to be cut in the anime. It'll make you appreciate the characters even more.

Different from what I've read. Hermaphrodites have both male and female sexual organs fully developed and functioning.
Ash is for intersex people this is the best description that I've found:
