Why do people get so upset when a shonen protagonist has some kind of special ability or aptitude that makes him capable of becoming stronger than his peers in the long run?

Does everyone REALLY want all shonen protagonists to be weaklings with no special abilities other than the power to outsmart/outwit his opponents?

Not defending the 7 quirks part, but do any of you actually think BNHA could be sustained for over a decade with quirkless Deku using autist-levels of intelligence to outsmart every villain?

Do you think Shikamaru could have been the mc of Naruto and bs'd his way through defeating Madara?

It really feels like people want every shonen to be "Stand fights but with "X" magic power instead of stands".

Because the west has been infected with the bullshit notion of the "Every man Hero".

People want to selfinsert user. But just think about it. Here on Yea Forums non got even the nerve to go to the gym. They can't relate to anyone in BnHA cause they can see they don't have the body to relate. What they see is themself getting bullied by chads so they start selfinserting into deku. But they don't even k ow the dynamic between bakugo and deku. They only see themselves beaten up by their bullies. That why they want to feel superior by forcing their desillusitioned ideals unto deku. Trying to think that they are smarter than anyone else in this world. That's easy after all. A brain don't get bigger when you get smarter so they don't have to show off. Deku is a normal, if not even actually pretty good mc. That many people hate him is even more proof of it

Depends how the author does it. When you mix special power with training it could good. But when you have something like in bnha, where the mc with the most broken quirk gets more broken powers without any effort or training it's pretty bad.

because then it turns into a power level wankfest, which introduces a whole new load of problems.
>need to constantly invent new villains because old ones fall out of power or give old villains powerups that devalue the fights they had before
>side characters become increasingly irrelevant and end up just being commentators who throw sensu beans
At most, the MC should have a gimmick that no one else has access to except for that surprise twist when it is revealed rival/main bad guy has it too for the epic final battle!!!!11!. This is why jojoshit and other 'battle of wits' stories will always be better

I personally don't dislike it when the mc gets stronger, I just get upset when every other character becomes so irrelevant It's not even a comparison. I just want a fun shounen where the main cast is equally strong and deal with threats together.

Saint Seiya did it best, where the bronze saints were roughly equal throughout and fought their own similar level enemies

o my seven quirks

Yeah, beacause Chosen Ones thet get everything handed to them + Plot Shields the size of an universe is soooo original and interesting.

>self-inserting.

Only faggots and losers do that. I never needed heroes to be kinda like me. Or my age.
Thinking back, even as a child my favorite hereos where practically never the young MC, but always secondary support characters. Usually more mature characters.

You, faggot, are the one that thinks he's smarter than anyone else. Your analysis is garbage.

So you thought Naruto and Toriko and Bleach are good as well? Fuck off retard.

>Does everyone REALLY want all shonen protagonists to be weaklings with no special abilities other than the power to outsmart/outwit his opponents?
There's a difference between being a weakling that relies solely on his wit and cunning, and a strong individual that also relies on his wit and cunning. A person that becomes powerful by their own means is a richer character because all of their progression, all of their power is earned. Even DBZ is able to get this simple concept right, even if there's a handful of instances where their genetics or some asspull puts them at the level that they need to be -- they still put in the work to come close to it, whereas Deku did muscle training for a month and got the most powerful quirk handed to him on a silver platter.

Fights are more interesting when you have a limited fighter go up against more brute force types. If both characters are very strong it just becomes a laser shooting competition.

>limited fighter go up against more brute force types
the dexfag with 10000IQ vs the giant slab of meat with 30IQ is boring and overdone as well.

Who says it has to be those extremes? You seem to be under the impression that power inequity = one guy is fast while the other is strong, when it can just be the case that both are strong but one is stronger.

>Why do people get so upset when a shonen protagonist has some kind of special ability or aptitude that makes him capable of becoming stronger than his peers in the long run?

Because it contradicts the manga's internal logic that the MC is so powerful because of his hard training, when it's actually just O MY ONE FOR ALL.
Look, Deku was a little bitch and didn't even bother working out, UNTIL he got One For All, then he suddenly has the motivation to work out and improve himself.
Which MAKES SENSE yes, it's very realistic in fact. It's like if Bill Gates gives you 100 million dollars, and NOW that you have that money, you decide to start a business and become a businessman. You can already do that, you don't have to wait for Bill Gates to give you a 100 million. And Deku didn't have to wait for One For All. But he did, it's not an attractive character trait to be this lazy and self-defeating.

>Introduced a guy
>Sell him up as the hard working, normal every day, effort trump all type of guy
>Several chapters in he keeps getting super special unique snowflake donut steel chosen one shits left and right

It is nurutu all over again

7 quirks, all more powerful than when the previous users of one for all had them is too much, but idt there's anything wrong with deku being more special than other one for all users and having more than just super strength. Deku was never gonna be the greatest hero with just super strength, he would never have surpassed all might. All might was the ideal one for all user and was made for it, it suited him perfectly unlike deku and he got everything possible out of it. 7 is too much but who knows maybe they'll end up being not so ridiculous but just support his fighting style and give him more options, though from the first quirk i don't have much hope for that.

>Only faggots and losers do that
yeah welcome to Yea Forums where the most popular character is meruem, a disgusting looking monster faling in love with an underage disabled girl.

and seeing your reaction and especially how you try to convince me and everyone else that you are different really gives me the impression that i hit bullseye there?~

It's really not that bad, you literally can't be a hero if you're quirkless. It's like someone not trying to make a pro sports league even if they love it because they were born without legs, but then someone gives them prosthetics and the opportunity and they make the most of it.

Yeah you really hit bullseye there~ ^_^

I don't know, Stain and Eraser Head both have quirks that don't translate into combat prowess, but they do well enough with their martial arts skills.

Both of them have quirks that massively cripple their opponents though, even if it's temporary.
Yeah they have typical anime speed/durability like everyone else but it's not like their quirks are totally useless in fights.

The MC needs to work for it and the author can't force shit too much. Law of Ueki and Dragon Ball both having some dumb ass hyperbolic training shit, and WAY too many manga have "technique that has a chance to kill the user but also never kills the users". The power wank, constantly making new villains out of nowhere stronger than the last hyped up villain, all lead to having no intense or suspenseful moments which leads to dumb ass shit like my examples.

Law of Ueki also has the MC being a Celestial, out of fucking nowhere, that leads to Celestial powers being more common in fights than his normal Trash->Trees ability. As One Piece goes on Haki is becoming way too important and just serves as a way to gate certain characters into always being secondary characters or non-threats.

>Jesus shows up and gives the protag a powerup
>Yea Forums loves it

Stupid Theory Time

AfO has been living for many years now and it has been theorized that he got some sort of quirk that stops aging. But what if AfO's ability to stay alive is by a method that is more sinister? What if it has to do with the no my experiments.
My thought while i was pooping is what if AfO found a way to swap his consciousness with another person ajd that is what keeps him "immortal". Whhat if he find people who can actually handle multiple quirks without going nuts and swap with them? What if he is using Shigi as a new host but first has to train him up first to become super powerful before he swaps bodies with him and disposes of Shigi during the confusion?
What if, now here me out, what if AfO's current body is actually Deku's dad's body and Deku's dad is actually dead/lost/missing all this time?

So AfO is Orochimaru? Yeah that checks out. I believe your theory, except the part where he took over Deku's father's body. That seems a bit far fetched

Surely they've been trained by pros, and if stain wasn't and is self taught then hes just an extreme exception. Did you want quirkless deku to lift some weights and make his physique stronger to a point he'll surely reach training in the hero academy? Not like he could train in a fighting style alone, nor could he train his quirk like other people since he didn't have one. He would just be some naive kid trying to become a hero through some strength training despite being a quirkless midget and not naturally athletic. It's fine that when the opportunity presnted itself he bravely stepped up showing he had the character to be a hero. This is just nitpicking

Yeah, i was reaching with that one. For some reason I kinda lked the "the main bad guy is actually my dad" trope.

The problem was the 7 quirks.
Deku already had more potential than anyone else by having 8th gen one for all.
Also, the very first year of high school still hasn't passed. Author could have put some short timeskips in the middle of stuff.

or let Deku go all out with support gadgets. 7 Quirks will just end up being a convenient power up mid arc that just so happens to perfectly help him beat the enemy.

Why are so many people obsessed with muh gadgets?

>The problem was the 7 quirks
Without someyhing special deli was going to end up being the weakest one for all user by far, he'll he might not have ended up being the best hero of his generation consideting bakugou and todoroki aremore competent. He needed something to match up against the increasingly stronger enemies and plans all for one set in place. Let's just see how these 7 quirks are handled first before calling it absolute bullshit.
