Kisame wanted to be isekai'd. He was captivated by Tobi's "world of only truth" since before he joined Akatsuki and after Itachi died he said he would leave the organization but returned when he realized the masked man was the same one who told him about the isekai world.

Gai was his worst match up, Jiraiya was the one whom out of his league.

Guise, what if Tobi told Kisame to retrieve Nagato's body from Konan, instead of doing it himself. And then we see an epic Konan vs Kisame fight, where Kisame wins and Konan dies (as she did against Tobi).

That would have given us a chance to see a little more of both of them and their abilities. And you could still add the heavy handed dialogue regardless, just have Kisame rant about loyality or some shit.

Konan should have stayed with the Akatsuki, considering her only two friends in the world were dead, one killed by Konoha meddling, the other talked into killing himself by a Konoha shinobi. Then we could see her paperbomb half the allied forces.

I always liked this scene, seeing these two just casually exchange words was always fun for me since they turned out to be the most stable pair out of all the teams. Kisame always being mindful in reminding Itachi about his eye condition was nice of him too, as well as remembering him in his last moments.

Honestly, the less plot-significant Akatsuki (or just characters overall) felt surprisingly more human and enjoyable overall than the main characters in my opinion. I loved watching non-main characters interact.

I don't know why people complain about the great snake escape when the Hidan/Kakuzu arc was 30-40 whole chapters of similar bullshit to let the protagonists win.

It was like 3v1 for awhile and they managed to get a few hearts, and Naruto finally showed up with his killer new technique we knew he had been working on for some time. Yeah, Kakuzu suddenly lost 20 IQ points to actually get hit by it, but at least you knew it was coming. Deidara had Sasuke dead to rights despite having his doton hard countered by raiton (how does lightning even beat earth honestly when earth harmlessly grounds it and lightning is shown to also beat water).

No I mean before that, the entire arc was contrivance after contrivance.

Yeah I mean the whole thing was contrived right off the bat. Pain could not wait a single second longer to seal the bijuu and made Hidan and Kakuzu return right away when Hidan wanted five more minutes to kill the others besides Asuma but Pain says no, allowing Shikamaru and the others to escape having seen their abilities. Such bullshit. Pain basically got Hidan and Kakuzu killed.

That's an insanely more complex question than you'd think for some reason and I'm too lazy to give you an in depth answer so I'll just say that the manga is overall better except for a few moments like the very end of the story

I think Hidan knew his role, or at least the Akatsuki made the right tactical choice pairing him with Kakuzu. Unless he's in ritual mode, Hidan can't do much more than chase you while flailing around with his scythe, but it's a death sentence once he draws blood. Plus, you have to worry about Kakuzu's mask monsters blasting the fuck out of you while you're busy keeping Hidan from chopping you up, while Hidan doesn't have to worry about being caught in the crossfire anyway. And once he draws blood, Kakuzu's mask monsters can keep you at bay until Hidan stabs himself. Shame they got shafted the way they did.
