I've unintentionally taken a bit of a break from anime and Yea Forums over the last few weeks, for the first time in about 3 years. Thinking about it, it was likely because of how depressing this whole event was.
Have I missed anything? Any other news?
Charles Hernandez
You heard about the second arsonist?
David Cruz
>Faith is a powerful drug Indeed.
Ian Long
>he wanted to quit his job And now he's already back at work even after this tragedy. If anything, this whole incident should be like an endless fountain of motivation to work even harder than ever in his life.
I have the feeling that even with the deaths of lots of their talent, Kyoani will bounce back with something big, if not their biggest work ever. Remaining staff and supporters will work with a special drive this time. I won't even surprised if that a lot of them literally throw their entire lifes into their work (at least for a while, as a way to cope).
William Ward
Only mentally ill people get survivor's guilt.

Did they hire a security guard with a gun to protect Studio 1?

From the smoke user. In less than 1 minute, the smoke literally didn't let anyone there see not even their hands in front of them.

Not sure, I was there some days ago and when I put some flowers near the building, there was a policeman who said "thanks for coming to Japan" in japanese and he bowed to me... to be honest I couldn't hold tears after that, it hit me hard.
That's nice. If I was in Kyoto I would've tried to leave something at the studio too, had to settle for a note at a memorial in Akihabara. I don't think there were any in the building at the time. One person died in the recording area, but they weren't a VA.
Jayden Torres
>52 years old Im surprised he was quick to react and survive.
It seems his work position was near the window. If that weren't the case, or if he were in the 3rd floor like Kigami, I doubt he would have been able to jump.
Justin Nguyen
Survivor's guilt aside, you'd expect just the act of drawing to remind them of the flames of hell. Then again, you see people lose their balls and shrug it off like it's nothing and continue living a ballless life. Humans are surprisingly resilient.
Joshua Murphy
Why the hell is Violet looking at the camera with an expression that says "Should I tell them?"
Thomas Roberts
Because Violet isn't Violet if there's not something emotionally crippling going on.
I was wondering when they're going to donate. KyoAni essentially put Key on the map in the mid 2000s

Its strange that they already made pretty much the definitive statement on loss and carrying on. Is it possible to improve upon it, I'm not sure.
I too expect something special in the fullness of time but I would actually lean towards thinking it will be something happy.
One of Yea Forums's real life memorial tributes to KyoAni made it on to Japanese news.
A Japanese news photographer was photographing the flowers left at the makeshift memorial nearby KyoAni's studio and it ended up being the one Yea Forumsnon made a thread about last night.
Nah that'd be Ishidate. Long before making people cry like bitches over VEG he was already handling important episodes like PW ep11, Hyouka's finale, Hibike s2 ep9, Clannad AS finale, LS finale. And let's not forget his unmatched skill as an animator within the studio now that Kigami is gone.
Kyoani was working at 4 o 5 projects at the same time before the fire. Yeah, they lost 35 (maybe 45 workers if you take the badly injured out as well), but they have more than 100 employees yet.
I'm inclined to think that this time Kyoani will focus in only one project, unlike before. I don't remember when was the last time Kyoani did only one project, perhaps in the Key era.
That's what led me to think that even a damaged Kyoani can make something really big if they start by doing only one project (as a way to prove themselves that they can still work). If the whole studio immerse themselves into a single project, and with no "deadlines" (I guess whoever works with Kyoani again will give them all the time they need to work into something as long as they can work again).
So the formula: "One project + No deadlines + Motivation and determination to give their 200% to honor the victims", might result in something big.
Gabriel Perry
>Nah that'd be Ishidate I meant it mainly for his age. Ishidate is still pretty young. Kitanohara is a better animator than Ishihara (both have the same age, and now they're one the older of the studio). And he's pretty talented, he might teach a lot now.
Well, if we are to assume they'll continue working on their pre-arson schedule then it's Denmoku that'll get this boost.
Carter Green
KyoAni really is strong, its because they have culture, ideology and I also suspect the fact they have a developmental approach will come to be important too. If you look at series credits, they often have an unusually high number of first time directors and first time key animators. Look how young Yamada was to get K-On! A reputation for quality helps too, its different if you aren't proud of what you are doing too.
Can't predict the future but if you had to design an organisation to bounce back, it would look just like KyoAni.
Julian Fisher
Kigami was unique because of his legendary skills and experience, not his age. Godly talent must be replaced with godly talent regardless of age, is what I'm saying. But I've no doubt that the experienced key animators and directors that survived like Kitanohara will be extremely important to the studio now.
No user, that's not me. I was there just a couple of days ago. That person left the flowers the next day after the arson.
Jordan White
Also is the factor of external help. Some studios like PA Works or Sunrise have said they'll help Kyoani in case they need.
And it wouldn't be surprising to see some really talented and veteran animators from Japan offering themselves to work for Kyoani, as regular or freelancer. Kyoani as a company is really admired by their peers.
Colton Brooks
>Kyoani x PA Works collab proyect. >Perfection That's nice. I imagine PA bros going temporarily to Kyoto to lift the morale of their comrades. And then working side by side in the new Kyoani studio. And when finished, taking a commemorative picture (pic related style) of their alliance.
>survivor's guilt Maybe they want to continue the good work for their friends that couldn't
Justin Richardson
Oh look, proof again that the society of japan is lightyears ahead of America even without the propaganda desperately telling you otherwise.

I hope they hold off the execution until kyoani is back stronger than ever. Show him evil does not win.
William Turner
user, I doubt this guy will ever be able to have news about the outside world. Either he is killed right away, or locked in a isolated prison for 50 years before they hang him.
I don’t see how that would be hard. The hard part would be if you just sit in your house expecting money and special treatment, but that only happens in America.
Connor Price
But he needs to give some explanation, even if is some crazy shit like he wrote K-ON and wants revenge. And probably some representatives of KyoAni would ask to have a meeting with him at some point.
Connor Garcia
Whoever it was who stole the guy’s work, I hope they take a long hard look at themselves and realize their coworkers’ blood is on their hands It’s true, they didn’t make the guy draw his blade, but they were responsible for him reaching for it in the first place
Elijah Sanders
You guys think there is some studio looking to poach KyoAni super-stars? I can see Cloverworks/A1/Sony offering big bucks to Yamada.
Oliver Rodriguez
>Kazumi Ikeda (missing) It's been like two weeks how can there still be missing people from a fucking fire? Are the Nip police completely incompetent?
Ignoring the whole thing and creating an ideal monster is not the best way of getting closure. Even more when the gossip about the stolen novel is around.

Kazumi Ikeda made Shinka (chuuni), Mai (phantom world) and Tomoyo (clannad) Shouko Ikeda made Haruhi (haruhi) and Kumiko (hibike)

Your daughter, or your son, or your wife, or your husband, goes to work to KyoAni everyday. You know it. And that day, that dammed day, they did the same, as always. Then you heard the news and call, she or he doesn’t answer. And you “know” why. But you hope that he left the phone, she maybe broke it, and can’t answer it. You have like 10 reasons why he or she can’t answer, neither of those include the worse you can’t name because there is a reason why they don’t pick the phone, you saw her/him just this morning, and she was thinking of skipping today, and he was going to be late to the studio because some errands, that’s what you can recall for the last look you gave to them. There are a lot of what if, and you hold to them. And you go to the hospital and they say is impossible to recognize the bodies or the people in ICU, and you still think in those reasons, maybe he is ashamed of ditching, she is too scared of admit she left early to go to shop. And the days pass, and you know nobody can’t be that ashamed and nobody can’t hide in a mall for so long. But while you know those reasons are wishful thinking, you still hold to them. There is no body that can tell you this is your dearest kid or beloved one. Yu can’t kiss her forehead or held his hand. There is nothing but an empty nothingness between the last time you saw them in the house and the next formless pitch black of nothingness on a table in the morgue, or hidden behind thick curtains in ICU. So, you can name the death but you can call them dead because there is no proof aside their sudden absent. And you wonder, day after day, how many hours of absence can kill a human finally, if a paper full of scientific jargon is going to convince you to let them go. Who knows, and you wait. And while you wait you ask them to spare you one day, tomorrow you probably would be able to form those words and put an end to it. But not today. Please, tomorrow. She can still show at my door this night.

I keep remembering Samurai Flamenco while I read the news. That scene when we finally know what happened with Goto’s girlfriend, because we all expect a resolution: they found the body, or he is just crazy. But we are left kinda empty because we find out the same as Goto, she vanished and there is no more hints about her. And then you found out Goto had to live with that piece of information and just assume a bunch of things from this. How easy is to admit a death when you have nothing?

They might have guilt. It's not a guaranteed thing. It's like he said. If they let the arsonist take the studio as well as the lives then they've lost even more. It also might be a way of keeping the memory of the deceased alive that stopping would not. It's hard, but I think it is the most mentally healthy way of managing grief in this situation.
Ian Brooks
I honestly can't wait to see what they come out with next. If a tragedy as deep as this can motivate them to produce something of equal,or higher greatness, that'd be an extremely vindicating outcome.

Maybe, I think Kazumi Ikeda(池田和美) is alive. Look at this sankei newspaper's article.
Translation >" My daughter is alive. It's safe." On the July 19th, the mother of the woman who was said to be “Unknown for safety” on the Internet and Twitter answered the interview of Sankei Newspaper. >The Woman serve as character designer and chief animation director for several anime produced by Kyoto Animation. >There were a lot of Tweet from fans who worried about her safety, such as "Is it a safe ?" and "Unknown for Safety ... I want to think it's a lie".
So is that the official identified dead list at 11 now, or have there been more announcements in the last few days? I haven't been keeping up.
Ethan Butler
Hokkaido Newspaper is local paper. Hokkaido Newspaper independently interviewed acquaintances and friends of the victim. So this is an informal additional announcement.
30s 13 people Futoshi Nishiya(Chief Animation Director, Character Design) Junichi Uda(In-between Animation, Key Animation) Keisuke Yokota(Production Manager) Ami Kuriki(Key Animation) Mikiko Watanabe(Art Director) Tatsunari Maruko(Animation Director)

I doubt any employee from Kyoani is going to do a public appearance for a while. Even less if the context is something related with animation, I don't even think they'll be in the mood for something like that for a long time.
Let's hope both are ok, that message might reffer to only one of the Ikedas. I think Shouko has been said to be okay.
Brody Reyes
I meant for the implications. There is still 20 persons in that range which are yet to be announced and every new name is like a punch in the gut. 20!!

Good news if she makes it through this. Nishiya is already dead and if both the Ikedas are gone as well that's the whole kyoani character designer roster gone. I am not too fond of VEG seiba clone and memeskirt

Enough of these fucking threads, man. Panda shit is deleted on site, but this shit is still allowed? We get it. It's a tragedy. Fine. Donate to Sentai's Patreon if you want. But enough of this.

Panda shit is deleted because it's place is in /h/.
Aaron Martinez
>he hates it Please Yea Forums refrain from doing more Kyoani threads. This user doesn't want them.
More than half of Panda's website is non-h. If we can have comiket threads, we can have Panda threads. In fact, during the beginning, the Panda threads were all talking about archival of artbooks.
As usual, haruhi behaves like a self centered cunt
Christopher Johnson
I think that's how shit like this happens. I don't hate KyoAni. I don't hate their anime. But I think people hate them and spam their threads is being of KyoAni fans spamming the board with threads and posts like this. The only personal parallel I could have is with gays. I don't hate gays, I don't mind them. Then all of a sudden they're having parades and having mandatory gays in video games and television. Slowly I grew to detest them. Maybe I can understand why people hate KyoAni and their fans.
Landon Green
I think only white people are weak enough to feel guilt or PTSD. I was watching a documentary on the Vietnam War, and one American vet hated how the media portrayed them as "heroes" and how they "won" after they came back. He talked about the comrades he's lost and how bits and pieces of him were lost in the war and how he was never the same. Then they interviewed some Viet Cong and they laughed and said they would do it all over again.
Alexander Perry
Okay, how much did Type-Moon donate? FGO made $3B last year. That's 300 BILLION yen in pure gatcha revenue. How much are they donating to KyoAni?

Funny, because I had gay friends and gay coworkers. One of my gay coworkers was 21 and his boyfriend was 50. And they had been together for 7 years. It's creepy shit.
Kayden Lewis
Are you fucking serious? Do you not understand that this is about an anime studio and their prospects for the future but probably the most significant event in the history of the medium?
Dominic Bailey
Not him but I also think it's kind of hypocritical because a lot of tangentially anime related things are deleted and not allowed and talking about an anime studio and the people that work there isn't any more anime than the stuff that's deleted.
Christian Taylor
How new are you? Studio talking has been part of Yea Forums since decades. Just fuck off already.
Joshua Lopez
mad lad
Henry Long
Doesn't mean it isn't something that should be deleted if you look at how the rules are generally enforced.
Eli Sanchez
Panda is back up and stronger than ever. This takes more priority because the future is still uncertain but there's a light in the tunnel. They're not completely out of the mess so ongoing news on Kyoani recovery is still relevant.
Sebastian Myers
There's no such rule, studios are anime related. Period. Shut up already.
>Studio talking has been part of Yea Forums since decades. Just fuck off already
And so has the fish. And that's fucking banned. Get this off topic shit out of here.

Why are you posting Yea Forums's rules like it means anything? The mods have never been consistent.

The people who make anime are not anime.

The people who review anime and do reaction videos on anime are tangentially related to anime. Blogs and Twitter posts regarding anime are tangentially related to anime.
Matthew Long
When we are talking about anime related artists in charge of making the Yea Forums stuff, no. It's still Yea Forums related.
Pretty sure if you tried to bring up something that's Yea Forums related and used panda, you will get shot. So just don't use panda if your going to reference some materials there.
Dylan Miller
>reviewers They don't make the anime though so fuck off.

Yep. Even threads that explicitly mention ORIGINAL GAINAX EMPLOYEES making Evangelion artbooks and things like that, the threads get deleted.

Ah. So "tangentially related to anime" now gets backpedalled to "making the anime".

>Yea Forums has been posting studios threads, director threads and sakuga threads, since the beggining of times Who cares? Mods have done their best to remove other parts of board culture, so it's probably just a matter of time before this disappears too. Reminder that seiyuu threads got banned while dub VA threads are accepted. You can go ahead and argue that seiyuu threads are trash most of the time, but they are still Yea Forums related. Maybe they should restrict discussion to only localization companies as well?
Asher Cook

It shouldn't be banned. Yea Forums was a lot more fun and relaxed place before rulefags and over-moderation became the norm. Nowadays everyone is angry and constantly bitching about things that are detracting from Yea Forums, when what's really detracting from Yea Forums is them.
Parker Garcia
There's no use arguing against autists. Their entire argument is "my threads are allowed but yours aren't even though they're both about anime"

I don’t get why people intentionally enter a thread they don’t like to trigger themselves and discuss about something they could just hide or ignore. Nobody goes to Prisma threads and scream for pedos to be banned. Panda threads here never were about non-h, actually panda threads in /h/ has more discussion than here. Sometimes anons just want to feel how is to behave like snowflakes, getting triggered for shit that’s not their business that they decide to lurk.
And this is why we need a /m/anga board. Just let anime deal with seasonal fags, while /m/ can have storytimes, chapters dumps, mangaka discussion and so.
Chase Moore
>Nobody goes to Prisma threads and scream for pedos to be banned
Actually people do. And a certain person does this a lot. You even get banned for mentioning said person's name.

>summer fags Now I feel bad for those teachers that have to take care of these sensitive butterflies for a whole year.
Gabriel Butler
I guess you don't browse loli threads either.
I don't browse those or Prism threads either. I just happened to go into a loli thread and someone explained to me about this single autist who goes berserk and gets constantly banned for pedoposting.
Jose Davis
I agree with you and I'm glad the mods mostly delete Twitter eceleb shit. Without the people at KyoAni and other studios there would be no anime and no Yea Forums at all. They're not tangential, they're essential.
Levi Gutierrez
E-celebs should be banned from the entire Yea Forums aside from Yea Forums and /rk9/ where they would get what they deserve.
Isaac Watson
I'd like old Yea Forums back, but /ag/ I could compromise for.
Joseph Perry
So he is going to find a new studio? Who is he going to work with? Everyone is dead.
Michael Cox
They're tangential in the sense that they're not anime. The person involved in making VEG is not VEG. I don't care if these threads are banned or not, I just want the rules to be properly enforced if they're going to be enforced and not the mods just deleting stuff because enough faggots on Yea Forums go into a thread and shitpost that it's not Yea Forums related like what happens with tangentially anime related threads all the time. There's plenty of shit that's deleted and yet lots of threads that should go on /e/ or /c/ are left alone because they're "Yea Forums culture", ie not Yea Forums but I like them so they should be allowed.
Carson Foster
Its good, though Kitanohara is middle level expert with no real talent to shin - he can do things solidly, but thats it. KyoAni knows it and thus in hiss 20+ years there he still not get to direct a series, while even Yamamura got, let alone the younger generation.
Aiden Campbell
We can’t retrieve old Yea Forums, /ag/ is our only hope. Hiro, don’t be a fag, be an /ag/.
Gabriel Bell
Holy shit your brain sure is full of cum
Luis James
Donated to KyoAni. Now i can pirate their works without guilt for the rest of my life.
(just make fucking decent VEG merch and figurines already!)
Nathaniel Powell
Faith in what exactly? Japan is a mostly atheistic society. The biggest Christian population centres were bombed to the stone age during WW2, it's like God doesn't even wants nothing to do with those people.
Jose Sullivan
Based shizo.
Henry Ward
They are Buddhist or Shinto, you idiot.
Josiah Collins
Try that again, ESL.
Easton Bennett
No one believes Shinto LARPs and Buddhism is just secular spirituality, there's a reason why it thrives in places like Pedowood. Religion in Japan only exists for the sake of culture, unfortunately they are too much of a insectoid people to get into Christianity.
Christian Foster
Go take your meds and a gun then proceed to apply your Christianity in front of a mirror.
Dominic Ramirez
There are other types of faith than religious ones. Like faith in the nation. Or faith in societal obligation.
Jaxson Watson
Are you just saying random things? Or are you just an insectoid that got triggered into retardation?
Japan is an atheistic society. Certain prevailing cultural expressions do not change this fact. If you think anyone takes Shintoism seriously, please do point it out, it's just basic bitch shamanistic folk religion that historically served mostly to affirm the divine right of the emperor. Buddhism is just secular spirituality that doesn't bare any fruits and nowadays are mostly a set of meditative practices with no particular path of salvation since everyone except a handful of people are stuck in samsara. They're useful cultural expressions (not even vaguely religious any more) that coexist peacefully in an atheistic society. This is self-evident.
Stop being such a kid.
Daniel Young
I really wish I could go to japan and give a donation and leave flowers at the site, but that's not possible .. but I still wanted to do something directly with what I could. I got 5000 yen from travelex and mailed it to KyoAni HQ. I enclosed a note with the following
>Donation. >I am sorry for your loss. >I wish to help. >- enthusiast of Kyoto Animation
>寄付。 >あなたが受けた損失に同情します。 >助けたい >- 京都アニメーション愛好家
>Kifu. >Anata ga uketa sonshitsu ni dōjō shimasu. >Tasuketai >- Kyōto animēshon aikō-ka
I'll probably never know if they received it or not but it seemed like the least I could do.
So long as there isn't an industry crash in the next 6 years, I'm confident they'll succeed.
Michael Myers
>I was pissed off at losing in a game, so I sent that email I didn't even know people got that kind of mad at singleplayer content, which since it's square, there's an above average chance that's what he was bitching about.
That was listed first on their website as "home office" so thought that would be best choice. My first time mailing something to japan (although I have received quite a bit of merch from japan)
>survivor's guilt Americuck shit like white guilt or guilting white people for slavery. It's either licking or putting salt on the wound, either ways pathetic, all you need to do is stitch the wound up and keep your chin up.
Sebastian Brown
>hurrr hurrr my opinion is a fact. Let me decide what atheism means! Kys
Oliver Garcia
>191768485 What is it with you schizos seeing the word 'guilt' and assuming it's some cypto-attack on an issue you're so buttblasted about?
Gabriel Harris
>Fire preventionist are rubbing his hands Fire stairs must be being installed in multiple buildings as we speak.
Hatred towards the survivors is even more retarded. >person survives >WHY DID YOU LIVE?!! WHY NOT MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY FUCK YOU DIE >proceeds to destroy and mess up their home and stalk them
Brandon Bennett
>This makes it the second major Square Enix death threat incident which led to an arrest this year, following an incident back in March when a 25-year-old man threatened staff after claiming to have spent more than 200,000 yen on gacha game and didn’t get the item he wanted
Religion is always growing in japan, nobunaga had to kill Christians and the US had to destroy the 2 biggest Christian areas in ww2. Even now it's growing everywhere in japan.
Japanese are born shinto, married christian, and die buddhist
Easton Rivera
Don’t waste your time, user. Christianfag believes there is only one religion.
Eli Gutierrez
so, the kyoani building didnt have them?
arent there goverment regulations or something over there?
Jonathan Flores
Oh, you're safe then. I thought you meant Studio 1 by HQ, but I forgot of that building.
Asher Morgan
>arent there goverment regulations or something over there? There are, but they don't include fire escapes. In fact it is not even a thing in most modern buildings.
Lincoln Bell
The KyoAni building was highly compliant, but it was only three stories, which meant that stricter rules didn't apply like you'd see in a larger company complex.
Parker Richardson
Was it Nobunaga or somebody else? I seem to recall him being rather welcoming of Christian missionaries though I might be mistaken.
>he's talking to a Christian >PAY NO ATTENTION TO CHRISTIANS! Embarrassing. Silence is golden, user.
Carson Gutierrez
Only one of those is a real religion. Shinto and Buddhism aren't religions just spiritual enlightenment.
Isaiah Mitchell
>arent there goverment regulations or something over there? Yes, but fire stairs are not included as "mandatory" thing. Pretty retarded to be honest, and even more considering the death traps that are most of the buildings in Japan (which have one of the highest building densities of the world to top of that)
There is apparently 1.9 million Christians in Japan. That is basically nothing like 1%.
Carson Morris
>Original adaptations
Noah Williams
There no religions in this world.
Colton Gray
isnt japan population buddhist? or what religion is that one where they have deities for shrines and go visit at new year and stuff?
Asher Thomas
His body is made of backgrounds.
Zachary Russell
I meant it you have a problem with that.
Chase Cruz
Number doesn't matter when you are the victim.
Adrian Sanchez
Last week a 60 year old man threatened to burn the Tax building in Japan. Crazy shit Aoba Shinji definitely inspired fellow Nips to burn buildings like crazy.
Cooper Richardson
Japan's population is dropping to 50-60 million in 20 years since about half of them are over 60 years old.
Isaac Myers
I guess the outcome was far more severe than any person would have thought before Kyoani's incident happened. You could safely say that mass shootings are a lot safer than a fucking arson to a building.
The only downside (or goodside really) is that in an arson the responsible is highly likely to be damaged as well. So at least that might be the common sense filter we need (assuming the only guys who would dare to do this kind of things are mentally ill, or schizo people)
Andrew Howard
Don't underestimate the Yamakan.
Anthony Foster
survivor guilt is more akin to not being present when you probably should have been.
If there was someone who called in sick to take a day off just to play a video game, for example -- they'd probably have weird feelings about having survived the attack.
They literally got 1 billion dollars from that gofundme
Levi Wilson
Only two and a half million, and you can't replace people no matter how much money you get.
Gabriel Jackson
pathetic american
Jackson Jenkins
That is not what survivor's guilt is and you're an idiot.
Joshua Bailey
Survivors guilt is mostly a meme, not a real thing.
Angel Murphy
I don't know about that. A good friend of mine passed away last year and I constantly thought "why did he have to die, why not me instead?" and wished that it HAD been me because I felt like there was so much left for him to offer the world whereas I feel like I am worthless. Even now I occasionally think about it and wish it had been me instead, so the idea that it's mostly a meme is something I'm not so sure about. I also might just be an idiot but oh well.
Isaiah Russell
It's probably something in the design, like how the openings allow flames to pass through rapidly with minimal burning on the actual structure.
