Rurouni Kenshin

Man, I can totally appreciate why this show is so widely popular. For all of its cheesiness and dependence on one-dimensional tropes, it's incredibly well-written and never ceases to be entertaining.

How long before I start to lose interest, Yea Forums? I just started the second season and so far the excitement, humor, and moral integrity of it hasn't slowed down a bit.

After the Kyoto arc it turns into filler hell, read the manga and watch the OVA

You'd be waaay better off marathoning the manga, and even that drags a little bit toward the end. It wasn't nearly enough to put me off, but one might say it was a bit...nerve-wracking.

When is the Kyoto arc? I used to think I could tolerate filler until I reached the ~170th episode of Naruto only to realize there were 50 more fucking episodes of filler still waiting for me.

>and watch the OVA
Or skip it since it's trash and shits on the spirit of the original characters for muh period drama.

Anime stops following manga after Shishio, so that's where it goes to shit and eventually just sort of gets cancelled. Read manga after that point and then watch OVAs to get condensed animated versions of the shit you've just read

I mean they are their own works and have their own aesthetics. Don't think it's bad, they bring something new rather than just extending the TV show. Just read manga before watching them.

Anybody reading the new manga? Is it any good?

The main character is voiced by a woman. The moment I heard him speak is the moment I stopped watching it.

Weird, in the manga he sounds like a man.

This was pretty jarring, especially when compared to the English dub. But now that I've gotten used to the original dub it doesn't seem quite as bizarre anymore. It takes a few episodes, user, but everyone else has such perfect voice overs that its easy to overlook Kenshin's overly feminine VA.

That's true for almost every shonen show

kyoto arc is Shishio & Co.

What is the trope for when they resolved seemingly the ultimate arc but then keep going and now it feels cheap and weird?

The $$$$$$$$$$$ trope.

>For all of its cheesiness and dependence on one-dimensional tropes, it's incredibly well-written
Not really. Kenshin is carried by great characters and concepts more than actual writing.
Dumbest post I've ever read. Watsuki should be grateful they took his slightly above average shounen manga and spun it into one of anime's masterpieces.

The new series is ok so far. It's only about 16 chapters in so not too much has happened yet. There have been some cool parts and it's fun seeing old faces come back. There are a few new characters that are getting a lot of attention, at first I didn't care for them, but they're starting to grow on me. I'd say pick it up in a few months when it'll be at the 20 chapter mark.

RK is one of my favorite series of all time. I finished rereading it last night actually. Ii do highly recommend reading the manga cause it actually ties up Kenshin's story and reveals his past. After you finish episode 62 (Kyoto: An Engraved Memory), you can drop the anime cause its only filler from that point on. Ii recommend starting the manga from chapter 1, but if you want to pick up where the anime left off, start at chapter 152. 152 starts the final arc and you'll be caught up by the end of season 2 of the anime.

>Dumbest post I've ever read.
Impossible, unless you've never once read a single malformed thought you've put to text.

Agreed. Characters carried the series. The only thing that ever made sense in the series is the Tsuiokuhen (Trust & Betrayal) arc. I used to think Kenshin was the shit, now I think his master is living the most admirable life. Master your art, stay the fuck away from people, and enjoy solitude. Away from all the problems and the chaos of the world.

He even gets a harem after the Kyoto arc. There isn't a single character that is more alpha than him in this series.

A lot of modern shounen anime does have MCs voiced by male seiyuus in Japanese audio though (see Hero Academia and Kimetsu no Yaiba).

What was his fucking problem?

I watched it and it's nothing like kenshin, and it was very generic in its storytelling. Sure it looks nice, but it was boring.

muh might makes right

>generic
>boring
The easiest non-criticisms. It's fine not to like it, just acknowledge that your pleb opinion is far from the consensus on it.

The OST is brilliant, I know that's a common excuse but in this case it's really true. The animation is cheap sure but it was directed decently enough to cover it a bit

oh, this shit is my childhood. Thanks to it i discovered L'Arc~en~Ciel. ill forever love this franchise even if the autor is a pedo

Apparently the video game Tenchu: Stealth Assassins has the same composer as RK. I recognized the OST immediately. I'd go as far as to say RK has THE most atmospheric OST for samurai content.

I didn't know that, cool.

Had a hard time finishing it, found it a bit too repetitive for my taste.

Read the manga. It is incredible. Also watch the first OVA. As other anons mentioned, drop the anime after Kyoto Arc. Once you finish with Kyoto Arc, watch the OVA.
The manga is to me the superior medium, the plot is closed satisfyingly and Kenshin gets his answer and redemption.

This. The characters make the story great.
I started following it as well, as mentioned by it is only 16 (17th chapter was published on the 3rd of this month) but the pacing is nice and the characters slowly grow on you. I am waiting to see what Watsuki will do with all of that, but even if for only sheer nostalgia I am kind of glad Kenshin is being expended. This arc I think has sort of a focus on Saito who, unlike Kenshin(who in my opinion has reached his answers and is now in peace with himself though now because of his principles is now in the current situation and has to fight again), is yet to be redeemed (but maybe I am wrong).

My nigga

>living on your own making pottery
Hiko knew to stay away from people and their bullshit. Kenshin should have listened.
Saitou is pretty alpha too. Following his convictions, fighting for it and willing to die for it.
