What's your favorite Tezuka manga? I've read Phoenix, Buddha, and MW so far and it makes me sad that some people don't bother reading his stuff outside of maybe Astro Boy. Also Go Nagai is the one associated with edgy manga but MW is pretty edgy in its own right and even Phoenix and Buddha have a lot of dark shit in them.
What's your favorite Tezuka manga? I've read Phoenix, Buddha...
Black Jack.
The lion king
Based
Buddha. Ancient India is a great setting.
Ashita no Joe
Man, his anthologies/ short stories are edgy as fuck, I'm surprised those muh 90s violent mature OVAs crowd aren't all lapping it up.
Ayako reminds me of a show about my country's dictatorship in the 80's, but with a faster pace.
I haven't read any beyond Kirihito, so I wouldn't know what tops it.
I like some parts of Phoenix and Ode to Kirihito most. I've also read Black Jack, Dororo, Ayako, Alabaster, Metropolis, Apollo's Song, and New Treasure Island. I dropped MW. Black Jack is one of my favorite character designs.
Not Tezuka, but one of my favorites.
Pluto
I enjoyed Alabaster and MW but I'm really liking Ayako because it has a novelistic mood. The only thing I can complain about is how ridiculous the "romantic" development is.
Tezuka is great at paneling.
Ayako is like a deconstruction of moe before moe became a thing. It makes sense considering Tezuka created moe with Lost World
the one that had the naked kid uh
apollo's song?
Ode to Kirihito. I'm a medical officer and some of the darker side of medicine portrayed therein remains hauntingly relevant.
which one latinobro
Can someone explain Ayako? She appears to be sexual object that constantly brings out the worst in people but I'm not sure exactly what Tezuka's getting at? I can see these awful things happen in real life, but they remain unusual enough that they invoke little resonance.
Yo imma let you all finnish but Princess Knight aka Ribbon no Kishi is best Tezuka of all time! Reverse trap heroines are the best.
Tezuka probably liked the Marquis de Sade idk
Phoenix is pretty cool, Dororo is also great apart from the ending. What I've read of Black Jack is pretty cool
I really love Phoenix, wish he stayed around long enough to finish it 'cause I wonder what he actually had in mind for our era and a conclusion.
Buddha and Astro Boy are the best.
Is all of his stuff that Vertical published still out of print?
Apollo's Song
pretty much, but unironically check your local library. There's a good chance they have some Tezuka
Astro Boy after he died is kinda whack and in a bad way
I live in a neighboring third world country that has not too many a real library, user.
move to America buddy, you can read all the tezuka you want
He'll get shot if he does.
Castle of dawn
I like how it's fun most of the time and then just has a grim ending
Ode to Kirihito for sure.
...
The original incel
Black Jack
Yeah but most of it has been scanned or ripped.
Easily Black Jack
