I just want you to know despite your most detailed future analysis aikatsu still isn't getting cancelled anytime soon.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but every new song that got a performance at least once in every Aikatsu season so far was released in one of the mini-albums that came out throughout the season, and the Best Of albums released afterwards only contained variations of previously released songs, such as duo versions and the like. Since Spectacle Journey Vol. 2 won't contain one of the songs from the second cour (almost certainly I Believe's song), I take it as the strongest sign so far that Aifure S2 won't be half-lenght. By comparison, the previous half-lenght season, OG S4, had all its new songs released in a single album (and they even threw an extra one in that didn't appear in the anime).

I think people forget that Aikatsu does not exist in a vacuum so things like Pripara gaining popularity hurts sales and not because Ichigo stopped being the main character or their favorite idle not being number one or some crap.

It took Bandai Namco seven years to come up with the genius idea to make bog-standard merch like scale figures and acrylic stands, upper management of the Aikatsu franchise clearly aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

I see this sort of thing happen a lot. When something is airing people talk about it like it's the worst thing ever, but at some point down the line, it starts to get a "well even if it was shit, it was a fun trainwreck" reputation.

There are different kinds of trainwrecks. Stars wasn't the "it's irredeemable shit" kind, it was still worth watching due to things like the characters and the music, even if the writing was often very frustrating. I equate the "fun trainwreck" definition to "so bad it's good", pretty much. Even while watching it, my feelings about it weren't entirely negative.

I don't think Stars was a fun trainwreck. It was an irritating, frustrating experience that you only kinda enjoyed for the characters. What was the peak of the shitstorm? When Elza discarded sheep like a typical anime villain with the minion that has outlived their usefulness?

No, that's the furthest thing from even starting to think of something as a trainwreck. It goes "this wasn't the best thing ever, where did I go wrong watching it?" -> "Now that I've watched it a few times, I've started to get used to the nonsensical mindset the writers had." -> "Holy shit, after ten rewatches, this is the best thing ever."

No it was still Lily being "robbed" and ainons crying about it like the ending of a shitty romcom.

No one cared about Kirara. She treated Alice the same way and never had a bit of regret.

I think the peak was the two episodes of song class S4 Selection simply because it was the point where it became clear the writing wasn't going to bring home anything it had set up. There had already been some confusion an disappointment over the way the rainbow cancer was resolved beforehand, but it wasn't nearly as big. As for S2, the peaks probably were, in no particular order, Elza winning that one competition by looking into the judges' preferences, her making Kirara cry and Kirara going back to being her good little cocksucker next episode and Rei telling her fans and the rest of Venus Ark to fuck off and be grateful to Elza. Things like Aria and Hime being useless and the Moon Dress were too late to really spark the same amount of reaction.

Yeah, but Alice was a one-shot sidle.

Ah, there was also Rola getting shat on by Elza and basically ending her S2 arc in a room crying until her last-minute offer to go abroad, but by that point nobody was expecting any different from her.

2wingS wasn't even remotely an ass pull. Mizuki was past her prime; after she left Starlight she fucked around the entire season and then recruited a gardener to act as her partner. Meanwhile, Ichigo was still on that grind 24/7 and partnered up with a talented idol and musician. There wasn't any magic involved that gave 2wingS a magical victory over WM.

OGkatsu has a lot of stupid stuff, S2 especially, but nothing on the level of RAINBOWS or MUH ZONE.

I hate that years down the line I'm still left wondering exactly how the aikatsu system behaves. I can't remember off the top of my head if there are other examples from friends, but here as soon as the song ends they're standing in their regular clothes.

I know in stars there were examples of characters being in their coords after the performance ended, so for it to change up here again is frustrating.
