How do we make this man more popular than Bakugou?

Simple topic, aka how to think of ways for Shouto to be the quessential scene stealing breakout character not the main lead.

Easy, just make him be more like Piccolo. People love a badass wise dude. Have him be more wise in battle and make him a sage. Play up to his potential to be calculating while also not undermining his level of power.

He may still not be more popular than Bakugou, but I think it'll put him up a few points. Reality is that Shouto will probably never be more popular than Bakugou. It is just the female nature to be attracted to guys that are volatile like that. Shouto may be powerful and cool, but he will always be the "less exciting" guy to them due to his nature. You can't just change him to be more like Bakugou either as that'd be bad writing, so you've gotta stick to what works for him.

I don't see how this is against making him more popular than Bakugou. The scar makes him tougher and more intimidating. His quietness makes him cooler, and his story makes him more nuanced.

>Boring personality
Shouto is one of the funniest, most empathetic, relatable and based bro characters in the series. Literally kys.
>Has two overpowered quirks
Who doesn't love a superior badass op hero.
>Dad is the number one hero
More a bonus because that's the person who he's going to Inherit all his own power and surpass on his own potential
>Lives in a big mansion
So does batman.
>Ghastly scar
Manly

This thread needs to be more impressed by shouto.

Try looking up polls outside of Jump ones.

I don't look for fujo bait polls, what do guys think about him. Last I checked he was behind Deku and Bakugou in a big way in the western shonen jump poll and was near Bakugou in the japanese polls but that might because of fujos to

Make him win more battles?

He could be more active in the plot for starters, oh and expanding his character dynamic with characters not a contender for number 1.

He's boring. Give him a bolder personality. Shoto literally just stands around autistically. There's stoic, and then there's boring. Shoto is the latter.

During the course of the week, or to put it better, in the past few days, details of the movie's plot were made known to the fans and a lot of them were happy about seeing a Midoriya and Bakugou team up, whereas others thought it was too early to see them team up. At the same time, others were rather unenthusiastic about discovering that Todoroki wasn't having a major role in it. While it's just a movie whichmayreally not affect the narrative, the negative feeling seem to come from the fact that the movie took ideas from the initial/former plan for the final arc of the series, from the fact that Todorokiis the only other main character aside the other two who has an Origin chapter and was just as inspired by All Might(intentionally didn't count Shigaraki since he's a villain).

So thinking about it, I asked myself what is Horikoshi's plan for him?

Predictability

My point about Todoroki's future as a sort of tritagonist being predictable has to do with him being shafted aside alongside other characters so that a "Naruto and Sasuke situation in Shippuden" treatment is given to Deku and Bakugou in order to push their relationship/rivalry because they're supposedly "the two halves of All Might's legacy". But in my opinion, and also asu/Fablihakhanstated in one thread, sidelining him seems like somehow mocking his character.

Unpredictability

This on the other hand may mean that, Hori might have not forgotten about Todoroki also being a main character and has plans for him to be still an important character in the narrative, and that the movie isn't declaring that he's going to be sidelined. After giving it a second thought, I feel like Horikoshi is still planning things in the story. The Pro Hero Arc itself was used to develop Endeavor, who also plays an important part in Shoto's development as well. So maybe he's just developing Shoto and his family arc and when he's developed into the character he wants, his role as an inheritor of All Might's legacy might make more sense and might be better than what we expect.

These are just some of my thoughts after looking at some mixed reactions and comments about Todoroki and the upcoming movie, and I personally think that his role as of now, is more unpredictable than predictable.

Well said.

Just make him more brutal, start killing villains and acting evil and the fangirls will swoon

By giving him development and screen time. All of his character progression lately has been shoved into the background. OH boy, hes going to work with his dad and learn from him. Then suddenly we get the villain arc.

If you want a character to be as popular as Deku and Bakugou, they have to be fleshed out like Deku and Bakugou.

Easy. Separate him from Bakugo and Deku. What I mean by this, is to further and segregate his plotline from those two, who are heavily link and suck away tension from everyone near them. Todoroki will never have as much presence as they do because of his docile nature. But if he gets stories away from them, he'll be better received for doing something different from those two. There's already groundwork for it with family drama, that just needs to be elevated into a major plot point.

Personally though. Shoto needs to be more aggressive. Not as cold as he was in the tournament arc, but he needs the edge and drive he had back then.

These are good ideas.

Bakugo is too based

Bukufujo.

You mean bakufujo?

This.

Bbab

give him more personality & screen time
at the moment, he's essentially a nerdy, slightly edgy mage while bakufag is an in-your-face chad barbarian

I honestly hate both of them.
Tokoyami, Mina, Jirou and Kirishima are the fun to observe characters

>Bakugou
>Chad

Please stop the delusions, he gets salty when the nerd he bullies gets strong enough to Jack him up.

I hope he ain't getting the gohan treatment down the line.

If Todoroki gets a lot of screentime in the next arc and Bakugo gets barely anything he'll probably win the next poll. Todoroki wasn't too far behind Bakugo in the last one.

This.
