Anime adaptations don't and shouldn't have to be panel to panel ctrl C+ctrl V. The director isn't afraid of having his own vision of the series and Yukimura is fine with that. I have massive respect for artists who aren't afraid of doing something differently opposing to how everyone says they should. You could say it would be safer to start the anime like the manga with the normanni and do just that but the director willingly chose to do it chronologically because that's how he felt it would be better. It probably lowered its commercial value but it was a risk he was willing to take for his vision and in my opinion this way of starting the series is superior to the manga.
