Kill la Kill’s sudden drop in quality

I’ve been watching Kill la Kill for the first time and I really enjoyed Episodes 1-12. However, as of the start of the three episode Raid Arc (13-15) the show is just laughably bad now. What the fuck happened? The story was already barley mediocre, but now it’s just bad and muddled. Also I noticed a lot of the shitty animation they used comedically in earlier episodes is beginning to show up as just actual parts of fights and whatnot, in a non-joking manner. Why the sudden dip in quality?

It never recovers.

Have you realized its Sonic Adventure 2 yet?

So 13-15 is accepted as being the show’s drop off? That’s severely disappointing.

Trigger can't plan a show for shit.

it's actually typical if you ask me for the people who are behind it, like fucking TTGL dropped off around the same time too

Trigger makes anime based on ideas for "epic" and promising starts but aren't talented enough to ever make them go anywhere worthwhile.

It was just so sudden. She fights the girl with the missing eye (I don’t have all the names down yet) again and the fight was just horrible. I don’t know if you can even count it as a fight scene honestly. I was thinking it was maybe just some weird dud fight that added to keep things moving but everything after that was noticeably just worse. Some of it I can’t even fully explain, it just feels different.

That's just Trigger, everything they make drops off hard in the second half.

i hated the middle of the anime too it gets better near the end but its never fully recovers

Well, whether it’s shit now or not lesbian mommy incest just started out of left field so I think I might stick around.

The show peaks with "A Loser I Can't Hate"
I often tell people to just watch that episode as a one-off.

Absolute fucking retard, TTGL's second part is by far the best part of the show

Nah. I’ve never played any Sonic other than the first one and 06. Stopped playing midway through 06 and never touched the franchise again.

The story isn't bad at all once you realize everything does fit together thematically. Also what you call shit animation is actually really creative animation, maybe not on a technical/sakuga level but the way it's used and the frequency is not not an easy feat to come up with and organize. But I get it's not everyone's cup of tea. I personally prefer it over super fluid but uninteresting flashy sakuga dicking.

By shit animation I mean when the characters become completely static images that look like they being flipped and spun by the transform tool in PS. I really enjoy it when it’s used for comedy purposes, and it’s ability to stand out is what got me hooked on the show. It just isn’t great for actual serious scenes. It’s outstanding for jokes and goofy moments, but when it shows up during a fight it seems lazy and pulls me out of the moment. I will say episode 16 is almost back to the standards of the first 12 episodes thankfully, so that’s good to see.

From what I can remember it only dips in quality for like a couple episodes, then it's pure hype all the way till the end. I do think the final battle was a bit anti-climactic but overall it ties everything up beautifully.

Like I said, episode 16 is already back in my good side. Also I’m use to anti-climatic endings from anime at this point. Stardust Crusaders final fucking blow >:(

I get why you'd find that irritating, but to me it's even cleverly used in those moments. That's what I meant with I take it over dull sakuga. The show did a great job at establishing this kind of animation way before that point for action scenes too. I always took it as a form of "well this world just works this way" so it was never immersion breaking.

I guess because I agree some of it is fine, but it hits random points of being too much too quickly at not very appropriate times. They aren’t doing it nearly as much anymore and seem to be back to normal (16-17) so all is well in my book.

>if you jump through enough hoops to justify the bullshit it becomes great! Honest!

>KLK
>drop in quality
unstitch your brains and go take your pills, user

Attached: 34223.jpg (300x168, 12K)

First half had a lot of shitty filler but it had good moments in between. Second half makes anyone who isn’t a life fiber special snowflake completely worthless. Sanageyama got unbelievably fucked over. The guy goes from beating Ryuko after cutting out his own eyes into a worthless cheerleader that stands around doing nothing while also inexplicably growing his eyes back.

>waah I have to think a little to appreciate something from new perspectives

It's good from start to finish, actually.

Nui still does that all the time later. Her arms getting cut off is played like a joke. There’s way too much tonal whiplash in this show.

Yeah it was definitely just 13-15. Everything after that point has been even better than the first 12 episodes. This shit is great! I still wonder why 13-15 in particular were so horrible though.

such a great show

>cutting out his own eyes
>growing his eyes back
Where you watching episodes at x4 speed with no subs while browsing your phone or something?

This user has no idea what the hell he is talking about.

TTGL infamously spent 40% of its budget on the last 5 episodes.

It’s clearly implied he cut out his own eyes

>posts the worst character that ruined the show

It's also clear he's a fucking idiot.

>Sonicfags seething their game is irrelevant that they latch onto anime that is slightly similar

Can't make this shit up

No. Not in any way shape or form. Op here, by the way. I’ve been binging the show for the past 3 days so it’s still pretty fresh in my mind. He explicitly asks for his eyes to be sewn shut, not cut out. That’s why he had star-shaped scars over his eyes. It’s the sewing lines. As long as they didn’t have the eyeball itself sewn into, it makes since that he could get the stitching removed.

You better be joking user

Attached: 1563342262219.png (270x360, 66K)

Fine I was wrong about it him healing, but it still sucks that a cool character moment was undone. There was no reason to piss away his character development like that it just shows how little care the writing put on anyone not named Ryuko in the second half.

I keep hearing this but I thought it was shit all the way through. Terrible aesthetics.

I still like him. He’s got some pretty great scenes and is a pretty decent team leader in the second half. Then again, he’s still blind as far as I’ve got.

Just because you’re unique doesn’t make you valuable. The “tricks” used in Kill la Kill look fucking awful. The themes are uninteresting and aren’t worth the shitty plot and characters.

The show 100% dropped hard in quality for 13-15 like I said in the OP, but it immediately bounced back and I’m loving it (characters and post half-way story included)

I disagree. I still enjoy the whole series in its entirety, even if it doesn't have the same kick as the first time. A neat package of seinen anime.

Attached: its ok.png (875x888, 689K)

It’s just 13-15 for me. They just sucked in a major way in my opinion. I’ve been adoring everything 16 onwards

TTGL is boring and overrated

The sudden drop in quality was ep5.
It transformed from an absurd show potentially making fun of high school anime, into an absurd show trying to take itself seriously.

just finished marathoning this show for the first time, goddamn it was good. I couldn't fucking stand Nui and Mako but wow, what a spectacle

Attached: apu blush.jpg (640x513, 43K)

TTGL post episode 15 is a chore to watch. Nothing feels organic, everything is horribly contrived in service of the points the show wants to make, the tone shift just does not work.

Gotta love Yea Forums fags.
Tons of threads about the show with small amounts of people disliking it

5 years later and now the majority thinks it's trash. Same thing happened to Lucky Star.

No, not even close. This thread has 30 posters, probably 15 of which is of positive opinion.

It's just the shitposting tastelets being loud, as always.

bait

Everything in 13-15 just felt off. The animation was weird, fights were short and pointless (some even being power-point tier), the pacing was broken, characters were off, there was a lot of random bits that were dull and felt pointless, etc. The show just seemed to lose all of its charm and everything that made it good for three episodes. Like I’ve said though, 16 onwards has been on-par with and arguably better than 1-12. It’s just weird those three episodes just felt so off.

I think it's technically shōnen, emphasis on "technically".

It was always shit.

How new?

>How new?
How new must someone be to not know the constant KlK threads in 2013/2014.
Its ok to not have been here for more than 5 years but don't lie about it.

QUALITY is part of trigger’s “style”.

this is the exact frame the show ends. nu revealing that she's the one who killed her dad and clowning on everyone with her wacky toonforce animation is the peak of the episodes up to that point, and then right after we get retarded monster ryuko which leads into her angsting about BAKEMONO DA for the whole rest of the series while mako and later satsuki is reduced to yelling her name to calm her down from her various bitch fits

Attached: scissor.jpg (1024x576, 41K)

Nah

>The animation was weird
Episode 13 was outsourced and the worst in the show animation wise, but 14 and 15 are both excellent.
>fights were short and pointless (some even being power-point tier)
I guess you could say that about the skirmishes against the other schools, which weren't supposed to be all that significant, but Sanageyama vs Takarada took 1/3 and Ryuko vs Satsuki took 2/3 of episode 15, and the latter especially had great animation.
>the pacing was broken
How so?
>characters were off
How so?
>there was a lot of random bits that were dull and felt pointless
I guess it can feel that way to a westerner that misses all the jokes about regional stereotypes in episode 14.

kill la kill died for me when they pan away from honouji academy and show that not only is the sky normal everywhere else, the whole world is pretty normal

No.

>not only is the sky normal everywhere else
?

It's obviously not, since it aired at 2 a.m.

Stop posting this unbelievably shitty and wrong opinion. Fucking christ. Not going to bother arguing with you for the millionth time, just kill yourself.

This. Completely ruined the world building.

klk was disappointing for me because after a few episodes it stopped pretending to be a sexpliotation show and went full shonenshit. I mean how can you have the themes the show did and a faction called nudist beach but not have a beach episode?

What a retarded post

I'm sorry that you can't tell the difference between something progressing naturally and organically as opposed of being forced, contrived and tonally schizophrenic.

What are you talking about?

I have to disagree there. This was pretty clearly an action show from the get go. One with a ridiculous amount of “sexpliotation”, comedy, and satire, but still an action show. Also, why care. It gets serious, sure, but there is still a constant barrage of nudity (almost) and panty shots.

Finally someone else with some taste. The show nosedives in quality post timeskip and the only saving grace is how batshit the fights at the end are

The town that the show starts off in has a very unique design and style, but once the show goes outside of the town, it's just the same as the real world.

Attached: HiYPZyL.jpg (1200x784, 305K)

>Only watching KLK now
Are you new to anime?

I was very much of the anti-weeb mindset until late, so yes.

*”ant-weeb”
Forgot the quotes

It's mentioned as soon as the Gamagori flashback that Honnouji was built recently exclusively to fullfil Satsuki's purposes, and the middle school they're at looks normal.
Still, there are several unique looking locations in the show, like REVOCS HQ and the Kansai academies.

Attached: Kill-la-Kill-Episode-14-02.jpg (1186x666, 121K)

Man, the OVA (Ep. 25) was kind of disappointing. They should have done a post-ending slice of life episode or something. That final fight just felt so forced and pointless.

How new are you to not remember those threads had tons of people calling it shit after the first couple of episodes?

It was the same with Little Witch Academia. The short film was amazing but the show never quite reached the same level and the story drastically goes down hill after Croix is introduced.

>It was the same with Little Witch Academia.
No it wasn't. KLK never went downhill and even comparing Imaishi and Nakashima to Yoshinari is ridiculous.

>They should have done a post-ending slice of life episode or something.
You wanted some SoL instead of an episode that wrapped up all the plot threads left?

It gets worse and fucking worse dude. Even the fanservice got shafted in the end

>Even the fanservice got shafted in the end
Look at this brainlet.

That wasn't character development, it was character downfall. How can you miss the point when the last episodes go through the trouble of mirroring and reversing/undoing so many scenes related to Satsuki's ruthless rule and mistreatment of her subordinates?

Attached: sMCin.jpg (410x231, 35K)

>KLK never went downhill
It's hard to actually see the truth user, but it definitely did. The 2nd half wasn't bad at all but compared to the first and what it could have been if it continued the momentum of ep 1-4... just a shame.

Nah, 16 and onwards was fantastic.

fpbp

KLK's just retarded version of Blazing Transfer Student.

There's nothing new under the sun. Despite this KLK was fun still.

she have period :'(

Blazing Transfert Student isn't even in the top 10 of inspirations KLK borrows most heavily from. It also isn't very good, and calling KLK the "retarded version" is laughable.

He did that on his own, Satsuki never made him do it. It made him a better fighter and there was no downside to it. Satsuki always treated the elite four well, it’s the rest of the school she treated like dogshit yet she never apologizes to them.

>He did that on his own, Satsuki never made him do it.
Satsuki would have thrown him out of the school if he didn't. The first thing she tells him after before seeing his eyes sawn shut is "I have no use for losers".
>It made him a better fighter and there was no downside to it.
Did you even watch the episode? It ends with a downer ending where Sanageyama refuses taking the tea he promised Satsuki earlier because he can't handle the heat anymore, and he generally lost the spunk and swag he had earlier after that point, becoming much more melancholic.
>Satsuki always treated the elite four well
She treated them better than lower ranks soldiers, but saw them as expendable pawns just like everyone else, not having problems with discarding Sanageyama after he failed and not caring for their lives if they meant throwing her match against Ryuko at Osaka. It's only after being defeated by Ragyo that she realizes the errors of her ways and stops seeing people as tools.
>it’s the rest of the school she treated like dogshit yet she never apologizes to them.
That was the point of the OVA, and she was willing to let herself be killed to atone.

series was a rollercoaster ride

This anime is so bad.

This anime is so good.

Every few weeks the same retards try to pushing the idea that KLK is better than TTGL when isn't even close. Keep dreaming fags.

>The first thing she tells him after before seeing his eyes sawn shut is "I have no use for losers".
She was fine with nearly all of them losing to Ryuko in a row on the same day later in the series. She even stops Gamagori from killing himself. She doesn’t care about failure.
>Did you even watch the episode? It ends with a downer ending where Sanageyama refuses taking the tea he promised Satsuki earlier because he can't handle the heat anymore, and he generally lost the spunk and swag he had earlier after that point, becoming much more melancholic.
Wow he can’t drink tea and acts more mature. Such a downside to gaining superhuman enhanced senses.
Again, the elite four job constantly in the series but she never abandons them.
I didn’t watch the OVA the ending to the anime was shitty enough.

The raid arc sucked - the end of it was pretty good though with the glove fight, E4 getting new uniforms, and THAT bath scene - but my favorite parts of the show are around the middle/end

Retard. Episode 15 of TTGL has more frames of animation than the entirety of KlK.

>She was fine with nearly all of them losing to Ryuko in a row on the same day later in the series.
In a "tournament" she set up exclusively to find the weaknesses of the uniforms, not to defeat Ryuko. If Sanageyama hadn't bounced back, after taking the initiative and losing a meaningless fight instead of just following Satsuki's plan, by demonstrating his resolve and his loyalty to her cause, he would have been discarded.
>Wow he can’t drink tea and acts more mature.
Don't pretend to be retarded, the tone of the scene is very clear, with the melancholic music and Sanageyama's dejected delivery of his lines. He's stronger, but he isn't just blind, he had to give up most heartly pleasures for his heightened senses. He's basically an ascetic, the classic blind swordman archetype, detached from what everyone else experiences.
>Again, the elite four job constantly in the series but she never abandons them.
They job when she intends them to, and I just mentioned an instance where she considered letting them fight to the death rather than giving up on her fight against Ryuko. Watch the episode again.
>I didn’t watch the OVA the ending to the anime was shitty enough.
Based retard.

Source?

The show was incredible all the way through. Not sure where you’re coming from

not Luluco

I watched it in basically one go and I didn't notice any parts of the narrative being weaker than others. Why not finish it before you make a thread on Yea Forums complaining about it

>We like mindless fillers and monster-of-the-week shit instead of actual plots with actual twists!
>PLOT BAD! BOREDOM GOOD!
>N-n-no it's not true we hate plots! We only hate *bad* plots (even though we can't provide a single reason why it's supposed to be bad!)
People like you are the bane of japanese animation and more in general of any medium that involves narrative in any form.
I'm really glad none of you works for an anime studio.

>So 13-15 is accepted as being the show’s drop off?
No, it's true the exact opposite, everyone who has any shred of taste agrees that's precisely when the show actually starts getting good.
The 1st half (except for the first 2 eps) is nothing more than a bunch of fillers, and not even of the good kind like Denno Coil, but more like Naruto-tier ones, i.e.: the shittiest imaginable kind.

Attached: this guy gets it.png (1001x279, 113K)

would've been better if she actually joined the hot mom and ending up offing everyone instead of the cookie cutter ending

coincidentally that's also when nonon gets her nudist guerilla beach uniform

These.

Trigger is a hack studio that built it's career on ripping off Gainax and pre-2000's era Madhouse. Their shows survive by generating discussion on online forms through artificially created hype moments and drama. Every Trigger show has the exact same structure frontloading all the interesting moments in the first half and then introducing a new villain in the second half who ends up being dealt with in an underwhelming way. That's not even mentioning that their animation is consistently terrible.

I'm amazed it took people this long to see through Trigger's tricks.

They rewrote the second half as the show was airing. Originally it was going to be a monster of the week for most of the run, but they changed that to more of a long running plot.

Attached: 1388356974510.jpg (191x295, 36K)

>My opinion is the correct one

Attached: 1380828244070.jpg (1280x720, 81K)

The real appeal of Kill la Kill is the girls and the soundtrack. Watch it all and then just remember the good bits when you're bumping Nui's theme at the gym in a few years.

>They rewrote the second half as the show was airing
False.
>Originally it was going to be a monster of the week for most of the run, but they changed that to more of a long running plot.
That was a really early draft, even before the first 4 episodes discarded and rewritten.

All of your shitpost is blatantly incorrect.

this episode was just especially so fucking nuts even compared to the rest of the show, like i thought the conquest was to beat them in sports competitions but not only was it literally just to beat the shit out of them but the schools were fucking ready to fight and had all their own freaky shit going on

the action at the beginning was the ironic parody kind. as the show went on it became completely serious and instead of being funny it was just lame.

Nice blog kid.

>the action at the beginning was the ironic parody kind
No it wasn't. You even posted a scene from episode 3, which has some of the least goofy, most serious action in the show.
>characters spend entire episodes naked at the end but it still manages to be less sexual than the early episodes
Yeah, that was the point.

Attached: 1492734671329.png (1280x720, 872K)

Actually 100% correct.

>Yeah, that was the point.
it was a mistake

No, it wasn't. Nudity isn't inherently shameful and sexual. The direction of the show progressed according to the perception of the characters and its thematic significance, in turning nudity into something natural that doesn't call much attention on itself. It's not a case that the sexual scenes only come later in the show when Ragyo is involved, who has a speech outright stating how nudity is vulnerability, weakness and discomfort.

they blew the remaining budget on Yukarin

I did finish it. And as I’ve said already 16-24 are all great and I enjoyed them fully. 13-15 are still absolute garbage. Just because the show bounced back doesn’t change that.

>13-15 are still absolute garbage
Nigger.

Attached: maxresdefault(29).jpg (1280x720, 74K)

Good lord, maybe you should read through conversations before you start getting all angsty. Episode 16 onwards was phenomenal and I loved every second of the last half of the series. The show made an immediate recovery, and that was in part due to the massive plot threads being explored starting in 16 and the two major twists that come later. Episodes 13-15 are still shitty compared to everything else.

>We like mindless fillers and monster-of-the-week shit instead of actual plots with actual twists!
Good fillers are better than bad plots.

>Asking a question/starting a general discussion = a blog
Are you retarded?

I mean, that's what everyone else in this thread is doing. Hell, everyone in this whole website. So this post you made here is kind of pointless.

Sure, there are a few good jokes and the glove fight was great, but the overall quality just wasn’t there. And for everyone saying that “13-15 is when the show really starts becoming good”, maybe you should reconsider that since all of your references to it becoming good have been from 16-24 which I already said I really enjoyed.

>but the overall quality just wasn’t there
I don't see it. 13 is shoddily animated, but Nui's Nagita ruse is amazing, Satsuki's scenes with Ragyo are great, and it's all really interesting from a characters perspective when you have a better understanding of their motivations (Nui trying to get Ryuko out of her slumber erroneously thinking that she fought for the freedom and safety of other people and failing, Satsuki baiting her with the pieces of Senketsu and succeeding). Episode 14 is a crazy fun ride with all the Kansai academies and their combat gimmicks, Takarada Kaneko, tracksuit & bike Ryuko, Mako at Osaka, etc. And episode 15 has more Takarada, and the best Ryuko vs Satsuki fight of the show. I don't see where the weakness is.
If I had to name the weakest parts of the show, they would be episodes 9-10 (the Devas fights dragged too long before Nui crashed the party, and the choreographies for Gamagori and Inumuta were weak) and 19-20 (pacing too fast, they even had to leave some plot details in the drama CD).

Attached: da3.png (1203x679, 1.55M)

Huh an actual KLK thread with 100+ replies

I only rewatch the first four episodes. To be desu.

look I just wanted to see some nice boobs and butts and I was let down

SA2 was good though.

Nui is meant to an enigma so a bunch of off-putting and comical animation was used to match her personality (and save time).

It was literally just because of Nui, she's the primary source of stylistic, purposely shitty animation to the point where her instakill in KLK:IF follows suit. It's part of her character.

Funny, 16-18 were the ones that made me give up on the series

Honestly by the end of the show the cast is shown so nude that it barely phased me that the ENTIRE CAST was naked at the end.
Also maybe I'm just an idiot but I like the whole series, minus the school field trip arc for kinda just, being weird and disjointed.

Why klk was so well received is still beyond me, but Yea Forums was already run by Yea Forums kids when it aired.
Cool and clever concept ruined by dumb gags, never ending filler, misplaced fanservice and QUALITY.
Those damn traitors killed gainax and they are now were they deserve to be, at the bottom.

Are you insane?

Are you fucking kidding me? Satsuki's rebellion was the best part of the series

Kill yourself.

Definitely a timeless success. Whether or not you don't like it, the show had a massive fanbase and the fact we're still talking about it means it's not forgotten. It even JUST got a video game [which I hear is unbalanced as shit so im waiting a bit to grab it]

It's not timeless yet but it's a success. It aired 6 years ago and people still remember and talk about it. Plus it has a new video game

it had a strong beginning and sort of knew how they wanted the end to be.
trigger always sags in the middle because it just meanders around.

So I wasn't on Yea Forums during the actual airing of KLK but how was the reaction of Ryuko and Satsuki being related.

Aka: did it enhance or ruin things for a lot of people?

Would you guys tune in for a remake of Kill la Kill if Trigger had a bigger budget and a more fleshed out plot? Kill la Kill: Sisterhood?

>Sisterhood
Yes.
YES

But not /u/.

KLK is great throughout, it would have been boring as fuck if they had just done 24 episodes of this week we need to fight the _______ club!

Fanartists will fill in the blanks anyway
Just let them give us more cute moments and I'll be 100% on board

>people still don't reealise this show is a series of references
It starts out as a fist of the north star/mad max reference.
Then the eva references start with berzerk ryuuko.
Theres more blatant ones like the alien, but most are too subtle for me to even list without investigating it.
Real industry insider jokes and references.

Its a pretty entertaining parody of a magical girl anime, whats not to like?

it's not just that you got used to it, trigger got lazy drawing their bodies too. just look at the new game where you can take a screenshot from any angle and see some nice ass or underboob. since the 3d characters are always on model the strength of the design carries through. compare that to a screenshot from the anime like
where the bodies have been simplified to a few lines and flat shading.

nonon a CUTE

It really doesn't need a remake

who was in the wrong here?

Shounen and seinen are intended demographics for manga magazines. No anime is shounen or seinen. It's something different completely.

>fillers
Come back to Yea Forums when you graduate from being ESL.

>how's the dub
They aired it dubbed, user. You already watched the dub. There were a lot of roles, but Koshimizu Ami as Ryuuko and Yuzuki Ryouka as Satsuki were two of the best in my opinion.

New to trigger shows? Trigger is infamous for shitting the bed at the 2nd half.

Shut the fuck up Triple Q

When extremely popular shows get old enough, shitposters come out of the woodwork to spin contrarian narratives. No show is immune to this.

A lot of you need to admit trigger anime drops off every fucking time in the last half of the show, without fail, dating back all the way to TTGL and if you can't admit it you're just fucking in denial.
I like trigger, but you triggerniggers are being a bunch of niggers

>drop in quality
Gotta have some in order for it to drop.

Seconded. Imaishi is terrible at writing conflicted/self-doubting characters.

i think klk was the last show "watched" on Yea Forums

everything else was forced as fuck, not the same level of energy
>takadara threads

like these niggers only watched because of a fighting game had waifu

A lot of shows are like that nowadays user, see Darling in the Franxx

Why do so many anons perpetuate this meme that TTGL dropped off in the second half when the last five episodes are objectively the strongest? Is it just another case of Yea Forums contrarianism?

basically everyone has shit taste but me (and anyone who agrees with me)

Well Minami-ke was always a better show than Lucky Star. I think you're mistaking that for everyones boner for anything kyoani since they burned down a month ago

lmfao yeah get ready for Steins;Gate 0 2.0 cause cashgrab sequels are good

Peak Kyoani is Disappearance and K-On. Nothing they pit out since 2010 has come close. Damn shame

>>:(
Kill yourself.

how is gurren lagann forced in its second half
