how can anyone who played the VN like the anime adaptations. They remove all the magecraft worldbuilding, SoL character interactions and inner monolgue of shirou. It makes Shirou look like a chad in the anime when he is a virgin autist obsessed with swords and being a superhero. Didn’t even realize the magic switch in the anime. Magic circuits, crests, and spells were barely explained. Mana and od wasn’t addressed. Grail war rules and spirits is minimized in the anime. Reality marbles/boundary fields are barely even explained.
Based. Yes the anime adaptations barely do the story justice. There is barely any world building.
How could you stomach watching DEEN Stay Night? I started rewatching it after like 7 years and its just horrendously bad.
Daniel Watson
I watched it and understood that fate route is primarily romance (even though saber isn’t my favourite heroine) I still enjoyed it I guess. OST and illya was good, but Archers impact on Shirou was weak and wasn’t as epic as the forest scene in the VN.
Nathan Price
A big, but unavoidable, flaw of the anime is that it cuts all the many dead ends, making Shirou feel like a Mary Sue.
But even aside from that the UFOTABLE adaptation is pretty weak, it just loses the atmosphere. There is no tension, just things happen.
Oliver Williams
I feel like the theme they gave Gilgamesh in Deen is better than his more "official" themes.
Jonathan Phillips
Suppose Shirou gasps in the anime. In the VN, it would play out more like this:
"—————!" I feel dizzy. My vision blurs. I'm shocked. No, that's not it. This isn't just shock. Shock is when you are caught off guard, and aren't able to react. This is different. I'm not even sure how I would react. But… Tohsaka and Saber are here too. I calm down. I think I know how to react, now. But why do I have to deal with this, all of the sudden?
It sucks that the anime removed scenes, and can't have the inner dialogue, but it doesn't waste your goddamn time either.
Nathaniel Perry
Shit like that is why the visual novel is fucking retarded.
>Reiwa year 1 >still caring about obsolete old and busted FSN when massive hotness FGO is having a series and movie
Jack Rogers
>flaw of the anime is that it cuts all the many dead ends, making Shirou feel like a Mary Sue. You have to really be brain dead (or actually trying) to get a bad in the VN. The only time I got a bad end was when I didn't end up surrendering Avalon to Saber.
Christian Myers
How long did it take you to read the VN? I only ever read through the Fate route. It literally took me 48 hours of reading to finish it. Other people say that's enough to read the whole novel, but I really think those people were skipping a whole lot of Shirou's internal monologues. In fairness a lot of it is just pointless.
Aaron Nelson
Thanks for the laugh user.
Justin Martinez
>fate shit in any form other than bonus series (Ceses) Suck dick
Evan Sanders
took me 50 hours to read fate route alone. i let the voice lines play out fully. some scenes i reread twice to make sure i understood all the magecraft and worldbuilding. speedreaders claim to have read it in 20 hours, not sure what's the point in trying to finish it as fast as possible.
Noah Diaz
I watched DEEN's FSN in 2008, literally one of my first anime and I really liked it. That got me into reading the VN which was also my first, found out the anime was a fucking joke. Kenji Kawai soundtracks were god tier though
Logan Ward
Her design in that adaptation and that era in general was pretty fucking great to be honest.
Now you understand why primaries are mad at tertiaries.
Zachary Morris
The anime needed inner monologues, they dont bring the point that Shirou isnt good in the head
Ayden Rivera
Playing through the VN now I'm legitmately surprised people think UBW is the best route; 70% of it is bogged down by Caster, literally the least interesting servant in the war, and 20% of it is exposition and Grail shenanigans that is done better in HF. The remaining 10% is actually about Archer and Shirou and legitimately interesting, but they bog so much of it in this basic shit. Also Rin somehow gets more development in Fate and HF
Ryder Foster
It's mostly seconderies whose first intro to Fate was either of the UBW anime adaptions, which cuts out most of the stuff you mentioned as well much of everything else. Heaven's Feel usually is the route VN readers favor
Matthew Hall
I still remember the times in mid 00s when people said HF was trash. How things have changed.
Julian Brooks
Heavens Feel 1 and 2
Julian Jenkins
it would be stupid as shit with inner monologues theres just no way really to make a good adaptation of FSN, it uses its medium perfectly in a way you couldn't do with anything else, save a book
Camden King
Probably secondaries who couldn't imagine something better after watching DEEN's I am the bone of my sword.
Jaxon Cooper
>How could you stomach watching DEEN Stay Night? The trick is to watch it first. It's worth it just to experience the full UBW chant with context and suspense. And as a silver lining you can only go up in quality from thereon.
William Hernandez
>as a silver lining you can only go up in quality from thereon. I honestly think it's a rite of fucking passage. If you can't stomach that shitshow then you don't deserve the flashy bing bang wahoo explosions of the ufotable adaptations.
Lincoln Russell
Deen is cancer. Ufo UBW at least adds some improvements even if you've read the VN. One example would be Shirou's face when rider activates her fort at the school. In the VN you get Rin's talk about how Shirou's face was creepy but he reacted calmly. But you never see it since you're in Shirou's POV. In the anime, you see what Rin saw. Shirou's creepy dead eyed PTSD face where he goes back to being that boy in hell and just keeps acting/moving much like he did back then.
Colton Peterson
My biggest issue with the VN.
Kevin Turner
This sort of thing happens a lot with FSN when going from adaptation to VN and vice versa.
In Heaven's Feel when Shinji captures Sakura and calls up Shirou on the tele, Rin is honestly surprised when she finally realized that Shirou was going ape-shit on the inside. How Shirou acts and what faces he makes are usually two entirely different emotions. He always looks calm and stoic but is a rollercoaster of emotions a lot of the time.
Easton Ward
This is a little hyperbolic but is a fair point.
Kevin Jackson
>caring about forced RPG rules when Nashitsu discards them when it's convenient with "le ebin special exception"
Austin Clark
Old Yea Forums worshipped UBW and fucking hated HF. Dunno what happened. At least wormslut is still hated
Jason Bailey
Adaptations are stupid in general. LNs and VNs shouldn't be adapted into anime and manga adaptations should be avoided as well. LN or VN -> Manga can work occasionally. You lose way too much of the original text when you have to fit your story into 20 minute episodes with enough action to keep the ADD-riddled masses glued to the screen.
Christopher Anderson
I miss every day until you like it threads
Gavin Sanders
I'm about to pick up Tsukihime. Does it rail road the player like Stay/Night or is it open to various routes from the start?
Lincoln Perez
Its been many years, but I think you're forced to do the Arc route first. I can't remember if it opens up to the 3 far side routes, or you need to do the last near side route before they're available.
Joseph Harris
That's fair, I guess. Thanks user.
Andrew Foster
Yea Forums has loved Sakura for years now. Rin is the one who's hated.
Kayden Adams
Don't look at the adaptations for anything other than watching the fight scenes animated. VN routes were too long to adapt in 2 cours properly or in HF case 3 movies. The anime is more enjoyable through that lens. Basically view it as action cutscene/summary
Jose Baker
>Not getting the bad ends just for the Taiga Dojo Sad.
Luke Brown
>able to do all domestic chores AND do them well >works to earn his food >well disciplined and not a lanklet >can actually be social Shirou is a chad in the VN aswell though. I don't understand how people can even call him a self-insert honestly.
Jordan Carter
maybe everyone who calls him a self-insert is similarly mentally ill
Anthony Brooks
Are you sure this isn't ripped directly from the VN?
Is this pasta? I've definitely seen it before.
Jacob Ramirez
Congratulations on not being a secondary anymore.
Caleb Ramirez
We need to take one idea and express it in about two paragraphs
You have to do Arc or Ciel route first, then you can do Hisui or Akiha, then finally you can do Kohaku, too. Recommended is Arc->Ciel->Akiha->Hisui->Kohaku.
