My favourite manga is Berserk.

The manga is much better than the movie
Elijah Johnson

Okay. Sounds fun.
Nice quads by the way.

Berserk (1997)
Kino no Tabi

I haven't read it in ages but I believe it still holds up.
It's Chuunibyou :3
Jaxon Myers
I don't think you're supposed to immediately give it away, user.
That being said: I couldn't have guessed it, have neither seen the manga nor read the anime.
Parker Thompson
Nobody's favorite manga is Cutie Honey, don't lie.
Lincoln Parker
It is though: I do actually admire its brevity and thematic density, and the minimalist way the characters are drawn with very defining traits. And how everything neatly connects to the central theme. That style of storytelling is pretty much unmatched in manga, most of which tend to overelaborate on pretty much everything (even the better ones).
I also enjoy the expressiveness of the early-70s-Nagai artstyle, despite (or maybe because of) its simplicity.
And now stop shitposting and try to guess.
Bentley Taylor
Sailor Moon

>Sailor Moon
That's correct! Congrats.
Informed guess or did you identify me from somewhere else? (3x3 threads?)
The two franchises are relatively close in tone and genre, and historically connected, so it does make sense.
As for your manga pick (I'm not really familiar with it), I'd say ...
Urusei Yatsura
Cooper Edwards
The Angel Cop anime would be an obvious guess (more obvious than GitS). But probably too obvious, and you'll want me to go out on a limb, so maybe something with a vaguely similar atmosphere but less graphic and thematically different? For some obsure reason, something makes me want to say:
Silent Möbius
Ima Soko ni iru Boku
Thomas Reed
Jordan Lee
>Ima Soko ni iru Boku
it's actually Zeta Gundam
William Brooks
I guess your favorite anime is Hunter x Hunter.
Jaxson Howard
Adam Harris
I teared up a little at the end. good read
Tyler Garcia
>Silent Möbius
will try this out, thanks
i sure hope that the male partner doesn't die
Isaiah Gutierrez
What is my favourite anime is the adaptation of my favourite manga?
Jose Williams
Akikan!
Gegege no Kitarou (1996)
>it's actually Zeta Gundam
Interesting. Not a connection I'd have made.
But good taste there!
Lincoln Perry
>What is my favourite anime is the adaptation of my favourite manga?
Then just post your favourite manga and see whether people are gutsy enough to just name its adaptation.
Nathan Ortiz
Cooper Hernandez
Owen Rogers
Ah, I remember this one fondly. A bit like a cuter, more comedic version of "Devil Ecstasy".
So ... I'd say:
Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan
Golden Boy
James Lopez
atleast post the superior version
Jayden Davis
Well?
Liam Young
Just skimmed through it ... and it's a really difficult one to find a corresponding anime for. I'll just go for the clichée pick, sorry:
K-On!
Adrian Moore
Well, I'm a kirarafag looking for a job , so I'll give you a pass.

Nice!

While the film is fine the manga is dramatically better, much more fleshed out
Easton Lopez
Stop that stupid "Nagai is bad" meme.
Learn to appreaciate distinctive styles, both in storytelling and in drawing. And learn how to read a story instead of just looking at "pretty pictures".
Owen Gomez
Fruits Basket (2001)
HxH (1999, but could be either)
Kino no Tabi
Berserk (1997)
Tobaku Mokushiroku Kaiji

>Nope, Higurashi
Interesting. Quite a bit different from your favourite manga.
Ayden Gomez
snk is my favorite manga.
Hudson Butler
>Youjuu Toshi
Not even close, how did you even get that?
Parker Sanchez
Yotsuba&! is a pretty agreable pick. Most people who've read it do rate it highly. I myself have it in my top-5 (3rd position, actually).
Going by that, I know that Yotsuba speaks to a diverse demographic with very varied taste, so I said to myself: "Fuck it, instead of trying to find something similar to Yotsuba in anime, I'll just go with something very very different, a classic, for adults, maybe a bit gory. Works just as well as every other anime."
Leo Clark

Well the reasonning is sound.

Literally no one is giving or receiving proper recommendations. Most anime that get namedropped in here are so popular that everyone has already seen them (with a few exceptions).
As for the manga themselves: Posting them is here is no different than posting them in a OPT.
Nolan Rodriguez
Elijah Morgan
Spriggan
Shingeki no Kyojin
Great Teacher Onizuka

Kafka: Inaka Isha (Ein Landarzt)
Christopher Cooper
>Golden Kamuy
So off the mark. The anime is absolutely terrible
Sebastian Hall
>The anime is absolutely terrible
Well, it's the closest thing in anime to the manga. Nothing else really qualifies. So ... is it something very different then?
Lucas Morris
>Spriggan
Nah. Should rewatch it though, I hardly remember anything.

Jonathan Allen
>Your Favorite Manga
There's no such fucking thing as favourite manga, too many genres.
William Price
Christopher Sanders
>Sailor Moon
Indeed. But you're not the first to guess that correctly. ( )
It's probably more obvious than I myself would have thought.
Just naming the Keroro Gunsou anime would be lazy, so:
Doraemon
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Jason Green
same
Jonathan Rivera
Yugami-kun does not have any friends
Christian Wilson
nice try, but i think the snk anime actually sucks as an adaptation. hxh 2011 is my favorite anime, despite its adaptation being slightly iffy here and there.
Michael Lopez
>Yugami-kun does not have any friends
Poor Yugami.
Interesting. I usually don't connect HxH and SnK, due to their very different style and presentation. I also thought that SnK fans mostly were fine with the SnK anime.
Elijah Turner
Don't judge my shit taste it was one of the first manga I read and I kinda liked the atmosphere
Jaxson Richardson
Aku no Hana is my favorite manga and Shinsekai Yori is my favorite anime.
Jaxon Reyes
>snk anime actually sucks as an adaptation
Come on now, sure it would have a different feel if it wasn't as censored as it is but it certainly doesn't fucking suck.
Christian Rodriguez
That's not how this game works, user.
Blake Carter
Let's just cut the shit and get to the point checked btw
Benjamin Miller

thanks for the recommendation thread, guys.

Berserk. (Let's say 2016 for a change.)
NHK ni Youkoso!
Otaku no Video
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
Sorry, I'm not familiar with this one at all, and from what I can find out about it, I can't come up with any anime.
Luke Nguyen
>Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari
Yuck. It's Code Gayass
Xavier Powell
>Elf-san can't lose weight
>that localized title
Logan White
Sorry, but there's no way for me to know.
I think it's because it's marketed at Americans. If something says "weight-loss", they won't buy it.
But they'll cladly buy anything that's "plus sized".
Jordan Roberts
What are you taking about? Genshiken is an amazing manga. All 9 volumes of it.
Luis Lopez
You think that's bad? The French title it "50 nuances de Gras", "50 shades of Grease/Fat"
Joshua Ward
Before i read this,it was Kiseiju
Nolan Wood
hard to tell. maybe NHK?
Angel Nelson
Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru?
Don't ask me why, but I'm getting a Satashi Kon vibe right now:
Perfect Blue
Jeremiah Sanders
NHK ? Sorry i don't know what it is
Nah don't know either but i'll look at it,thanks user
Camden Smith
Likely one of the few people who would list this as their favourite.
I'm completely compelled towards violent and sad things.
Caleb Thompson
Zachary Butler
I love the Berserk manga and the 97 anime was also good but not my favourite, I'd say Naoki Urusawa's Monster or LoGH
Jackson Edwards
made in abyss
>protip, it's not the anime
Jayden Brooks
berserk?
Brayden Gonzalez
not exactly, but that's the basic atmosphere
Robert Peterson
One Outs
Daily Lives of HS boys?
Baki?
Gavin Bell
I have literally never watched or read baki
the answer is actually code geass
I'm a fucking mess
Asher Lopez
Lain.
Zachary Torres
No I think this game just shows the disconnect between manga vs anime, even for manga with anime adaptations it's rare to see someone hold both as their favourites. The differences in mediums is too big.
Mason Phillips
well to be fair the kengan asura anime is pure dogshit
Brayden Lee
Landon Hill
That’s hilarious.
Anthony Martinez
AND YOU DON'T SEEM YOU UNDERSTAND!
Joshua Sullivan
Mezzo Forte
Grappler Baki (2001)

Mmh ... a banjou manga. How about a sukeban anime:
Sukeban Deka
No idea, honestly. Most things that seem similar are manga-only. Maybe:
Ousama Game
Henry Taylor
Can't think of anything else quite like it, so I'll just have to say:
Air Gear
Justin Howard
Season 2 of the anime bro
Eli Morgan
Bump, because I like this thread!
Dominic Cooper
Me again, as I said it is lain, actually I love scifi anime/manga and cyberpunk in general.
Tyler Butler
Bump.
Jeremiah Martinez
Tough call, but Teppu because its short and bittersweet. Other manga have needed to be twice as long or more so to have the same impact on me I guess.
Asher Bell
So ... "short and bittersweet"? Well, how about:
Mononoke Hime
(Another option would be "Saigo no Yunikoon"/"The last unicorn". But some don't even consider that one an anime. Yet another option, "Sekai Meisaku Douwa Hakuchou no Mizuumi", the anime adaptation of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake". It's great, but I doubt you've seen that one. Most people haven't.)
None of those have too much in common with your manga though.
Hudson Long
No its Space Dandy.
Nolan Rodriguez
Some of the Episodes really hit me pretty hard.
But you got some great taste right there.
(Hit submit when I didn't mean too)
Andrew Watson
Kare Kano
evangelion
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi
Yu Yu Hakusho
One Outs
Clannad
Gunsmith Cats
Dominic Watson
Isaiah Gomez
>Space Dandy
That's an odd choice for "bittersweet". Though, yeah, I guess that it can be if you're really emotionally invested in it. (I admit that I wasn't.)
I definitely wouldn't call it "short", in the context where anime nowadys mostly get only 12 episodes, 90 minute films are the standard and more and more shorts come out.
Carson Gonzalez
Not the most creative guess, but:
Monster
Dr. Slump
Nolan Allen
>That's an odd choice for "bittersweet"
You're making the mistake of assuming that someone's favourite anime has to be the same as their favourite manga tonally and thematically, or at least that's what I've observed based on your guesses in this thread.
Xavier Peterson
For me its about the individual stories from each episode. Each one was short enough where you didn't have to dedicate a ton of time to it.
FLCL could have just as easily been my number 1.
Oliver Walker
>You're making the mistake of assuming that someone's favourite anime has to be the same as their favourite manga tonally and thematically
I'm not saying it has to be, but:
A) When guessing someone's favourite anime based on the favourite manga (and the additional comments that someone provided), then, yes going by shared tone, atmosphere, themes or style is usually the best guess. Because that's pretty much everything we have to go by. Of course, that method will fail more often then not, but it's preferable to having no method at all and just picking a random one out of, in theory, thousands of possibilities.
B) In this case, I responded to him revealing his favourtie anime and classifying it as bittersweet. So, yeah, in that case the method could have worked, had I considered the same things under that label.
>For me its about the individual stories from each episode. Each one was short enough where you didn't have to dedicate a ton of time to it.
That makes sense. Seems we simply watch and anime (or narratives in general) very differently.
>FLCL could have just as easily been my number 1.
That also makes sense, considering the stylistic similarities between those two.
Aaron Phillips
Bump?
Lincoln Mitchell
Well, I guess everyone on Yea Forums who even reads manga has already posted in here. Enjoyable thread, nonetheless.
Jordan King
It seems that way, theres not a lot to discuss either given the prompt.
Ian Brown
>theres not a lot to discuss either given the prompt
Most people didn't really try to guess anime. But that's okay. I found it pretty hard, personally, and the chances to get anything right are quite low.
It was nice to see that some people still read manga, some niche ones even that they consider their favourites.
Grayson Garcia
Kinnikuman.
Ian Carter
Adam Green
Dominic Adams
The hentai is even way better
Cooper Green
Seems there are a few more! Hooray!
Golgo 13
Gundam 0080
Lain
(Okay, I'm cheating: I'm pretty sure I know who you are and what your 3x3 is.)
Lincoln Barnes
The ending is too good
Connor Baker
It's no surprise, user. You can count on one hand how many Taniguchi posters are on this board.
Evan Morris
Yeah, makes you stand out. Nothing wrong with having a distinct taste though. (I think some people find mine relatively recognizable as well.)
Adam Hernandez
I literally cannot pick a favorite manga. Its just not possible.
But well for the sake of this thread I'll go with pic related but it could've easily been 20th Century Boys or Welcome to the NHK or Oyasumi or something else.
Joseph Fisher
>Macross: DYRL?
Nah.
>Gunsmith Cats
GSC is certainly among my favorites, but I'd say Silent Möbius. Really surprised the series has been mentioned already.
Bentley White
>I'll go with pic related but it could've easily been ...
I'd usually say that when you pick HxH as your favourite manga, you'll also like one of its adaptations the best. But with you giving such a wide variety of possible favourite manga makes me wary about that. It could literally be anything, couldn't it?
>Silent Möbius. Really surprised the series has been mentioned already.
Yeah, by me. It is a nice series, but not one that I think of often. But this thread has made me think of many anime that I keep somewhere in the back of my mind. Kinda refreshing.
I didn't really consider it for your manga pick, but its setting does fit it pretty well!
Leo Cox
Well for arguments sake just assume my favorite manga is HxH
I just find it odd how people can readily pick one favorite that stands out. Its hard to compare different works that you consider masterpieces. Take HxH and Punpun. They're barely comparable in terms of plot, setting, characters, etc. but both evoke powerful emotions within me. So how am I supposed to consider one or the other to be my favorite when I have no way of comparing the stories or the different emotions they evoke within me?
Also I have like 10 anime I would consider to be my favorite. Go with your gut feeling and you'll most likely be right. Just don't go with the cheap option of picking the adaptations.
Charles Harris
>I just find it odd how people can readily pick one favorite that stands out. Its hard to compare different works that you consider masterpieces.
It's not exactly a comparison, and certainly not an objective thing, not about what you'd consider a masterpiece. It's also not about trying to rate what it makes you feel.
It is very much about what connects with you most on a "deeper" level, what "intellectually" resonates most with you. The thing that makes you think about it most, that you think of when you hear "manga".
>Also I have like 10 anime I would consider to be my favorite.
Well, okay. It's a nice number for a 3x3. Have you considered making one?
>Just don't go with the cheap option of picking the adaptations.
So, not an adaptation of a manga you would like. Going with an anime original then:
Cowboy Bebop
Anthony Roberts
You'll never get mine right, so I'll give you a tip, it's a shoujo adaptation.
FLCL
One of the Ghibli movies.
Takarajima
The current JoJo anime
Excellent taste in manga. No idea what your favorite anime could be? Something sci-fi? Maybe Gundam G.
Kevin Ramirez
You're right. I wouldn't guess any shoujo anime froim Bokurano. Which means I also have no idea which one would fit - there are countless different shoujo adaptations after all. I guess I'll go with:
Cardcaptor Sakura
Luis Scott
I do like it quite a lot but CCS is not my favourite. I don't want to spill the beans just yet, let's see if someone else can get it right.
Jacob Bell
Thread's dead so I will just say it, it's Oniisama e...
Joshua Diaz
Let's try one last (?) bump ...
Jayden Taylor
