Yep, Mashima's following a theme of naming his protagonists off of the seasons. So after Eden's Zero, he'll do one last manga and the protagonist's name will be Fuyu, or Winter.

I feel you know you'd rather Mashima not do worse than Alvarez. He's not a bad writer when he actually has things planned out, which he's doing with this series, and what he hardly ever did with Fairy Tail.

I'd tell you to read Rave Master over anything he's ever done in a heartbeat; that series is what you get when Mashima has actual story direction. But if you're looking for something to follow on a weekly basis, Edens Zero's quality is closer to Fairy Tail's best than its worst.

It's the dude from the past couple chapters who touched Kurenai's face and she burned his off in response.

Alright, then consider this: Edens Zero has been running for 56 chapters, and it hasn't factored the power of friendship into the characters' strength. Asspull victories are also far less frequent, and any twists the series has are set up properly and shortly beforehand. Take the fight in this chapter, for example; they found a weakness and exploited it through teamwork, not because of some power-up we haven't seen or heard of before.

Granted, Fairy Tail has other problems, but there are those that bother some people that don't bother others. It depends on how the GMG tanked the series for you (frankly, Tartaros was incredible for me because it had lasting consequences that aren't immediately undone, unlike a certain other arc...)
