Zeke entered the paths realm when he made contact with Eren and had been waiting for his otouto to recover/be rebuilt. Within paths time passess with no regards for reality, so 100s of years can take place in an instant.

We've been lead to believe by Zeke, that once the two come into contact, Eren would be able to control the founding, like he did when he punched Dina.
The truth is, Eren only controlled the power because Dina, while a titan, was not sentiet.
Zeke on the other hand is sentient, so when they come into contact the founding titan obeys Zeke, because he is of royal blood and not Eren.

Zeke can now carry out his plan, but it's of the up most priotity that he gets eren on his side(daddy issues, love issues, ototo w.e), and so instead of just using the power, he wants Eren to understand him, and see that his father was wrong, undo his brain washing etc.

Now that they are in paths they have direct access to every single memory, and so Zeke aims to show Eren the truth behind Grisha by going through his past, but by doing this Zeke is slowly realizing he was wrong about grisha, and the chapter is to be continued.
