I'm going to avoid all this argument over sex and gender and just agree that I too like the idea of Ranma falling in love with Ryoga, not as anykind of resolution but as an arc. I'd assume Ranma cures his curse, so it'd be resolved then, presumably with Akane as the canon OTP. Male ranma obviously wouldn't feel the same attraction for Ryoga as his female self but they could end their rivalry as a friendship.

It's good, but it doesn't have the same appeal, since she was always a girl even if she's technically the same person. Kyonko's play by play in ToS is really what makes it so good.

The ending was absolute trash in both the anime and manga, which was a shame as I liked the series, it was really fresh for its time. Though if I were to watch it again now, it would probably frustrate me by how much it wasted its potential by not exploring the GB theme enough.

It explored the GB theme as much as it needed to - which was, frankly, not at all. Would have been a better series without it and instead focusing on the actually interesting stuff in the form of all the crazy characters and their twisted network of relationships.

As someone else previously pointed out, what made it work was that it's not a GB series about martial arts, but a shonen-ish martial arts series featuring GB.

AB SO LUTELY DESU

I mean it did the latter, that's why I liked it. But the GB was only really touched upon in the first episode and then it was just something normal, irrelevant even to the series when it was a really interesting topic to explore. It was a gimmick basically, as for whether it would have been better off without it, as it was I would say yes and that's why I said there was wasted potential because it could have been an even better series.

That's why I liked it, wish the GB was just more explored is all, but I guess expecting shonen to be more thought provoking than that is asking for too much.
