Rantfag here about Yu Gi Oh's character handling. Aki being my biggest letdown, I was retelling 5Ds from her POV with a lot of the Arcadia/psychic movements and grim shit that were supposed to go in the final series were not for the scandals and BUY BLACKWINGS.

And how would that affected ArcV cameos? Maybe Aki instead of Crow in Synchro and maybe Kaiser instead of Alexis in 3rd Season.

Leo’s got fucked the hardest they teased Lifestream Dragon at like episode 30 but he didn’t show up till episode 150+. Leo like all brother I’m Yu gi oh was based.
So Crow used blackwings as an archetype and they were really good in the TCG. Leo’s archetype were morphtronics and they sucked so Crow took his spot as the fifth signer.
They totally should have made the time-travelling Big Bad an alternate future Yusei.

Truth is, if they want to advertise BW do a series apart, or make Crow an antagonist (Kaiba's card sold, did they?) if I watch the anime it's for plot and characters, not weird ass machinations to summon a piece of cardboard.
That's my buzzkiller in VRAINS too, 3 seasons, no character dev, and the duels altough more realistic are just a chore to watch

Well, since I don't know if the thread's gonna survive the wait I'll throw a synopsis of my fic.
Post 5Ds Aki is a Doctor in a German Asylum, one of her patients is actually an old friend from the Academy, Erika, she was caught dazzling after some suppossed spell or shit.
Aki goes to talk to her and when Erika says that her only problem is her (Aki) things start to get weird.
That night Aki finds Erika stalking her in her house during a blackout and she falls into this weird realm that looks like heaven but Erika tells her to go back in time and fix her position as a character and that there are other agents throughout the dimensions doing this to the other main girls.
Aki wakes up in Sattelite and the place is misery on earth, she's back to her young form and accidentaly unleashes psychical carnage with the power of the black rose killing a bunch of Security Guards, she blacks out and Ushio finds her and puts gives her to Martha along with Rua and Ruka (Ruka sorta knows what's going on with Aki) Martha gives some exposition about the bandits and cults attacking sattelite and neo domino, then she orders her to go and rescue Yuse's kidnapped ass from some paramilitary guys.
The story is full of violence, references to old books, war, and it's as less watered down as possible. I wanted it to be miserable.I hope it works,

as for aki, i think she has the best stats for a main heroine:

I fucking hate how in Duel Links Crow gets all the cocky lines and Aki's acting like a whipped bitch "Oh, Yusei's not gonna love me anymore :( " Fuck that shit. The only relation that worked in 5Ds was Carly and Jack, and we all know how that ended
If they gave us a proper spinoff with the right amount of things that got scrapped... I'd like a duel Aki vs Divine, or maybe tag Misty with Aki and Divine with some DS. Fucking Komoney. Don't even know how to make the greens roll.

The point of their relationship was supposed to be mutual edification instead of use-and-abuse. The problem is that Yoshida doesn't know how to right romance or women (by his own admission). If you couple that with having to remove Divine and the Arcadia Movement, it explains why their relationship couldn't feasibly exist.
For example, we know that Aki has severe mental issues. She nearly, accidentally, killed her family and burned down her home as a kid. She was taken in by a manipulating, charisma cult leader. It's heavily implied that Divine sexually abused Aki, and she had no idea that their relationship was wrong given that she was still a teen (fifteen / sixteen) and he was an adult. She even gets visibly aroused causing pain to people because she's gone full sadomasochistic.
Yusei had his troubles, too, though not as overt and severe. We know he felt like he believed he was meant to carry the burden. He hated himself because he believed that his dad was the reason Zero Reverse happened and ruined everyone's lives. He hated himself because Kiryu died taking the fall for The Enforcers. He hated himself for not being able to do more to help people in the slums. Despite him having a calm exterior, he's an extremely emotional person, which is why he contrasted so well with Jack, who was overtly passionate, yet still logical.
Everything changed about Yusei and Aki after the Dark Signers Arc where they became flanderized and lost, as both of their character arcs (like others) had ended; Yusei felt "redeemed" from the Zero Reverse, and Aki was "freed" from the Movement. They were two young adults liberated from a worldview that had held them down for so long.
People wanted to see two damaged people, in a broken society with broken lives, build the city, and each other, back up again once it was torn down.
Yeah I remember reading her final monologue when I rewatched 5Ds two years ago where her feelings for Yusei are very similar to how she felt for Divine and I remember letting out a disappointed groan. It just settled in that she really didn't grow in the end, she just switched sides from being mad at the world to being Yusei's baglicker. I'm not mad about the ending like I used to be, if anything moving away from Yusei is probably the best option for her. For the first time she finally has control of the direction of her life, there's no one guiding her on how what choices to make or anyone to influence her decisions.
She truly becomes independent

I believe that Doctor really suits her as a career if we take for granted the psychic healing abilities. Still, it would have been nice to see Aki (or any other character) thinking about their future selves.

Based on real events and people the friendship (and sometimes romance) between characters flows naturally and it's great.
Yoshida might be sexist, but even on a full male cast he wouldn't know about friendship, courage, camaraderie.
That's what irks me, a bunch of Benis :DDD soldiers have better bonds and friendship than the whole ARC V cast.
Hell, even Tove Jansson's Moomins have a lot more chemistry....
One of the worst offenders is that I never liked dragons, they all seemed so uninspired. Especially when CGI animated. I understan BEWD and REBD but 5Ds onwards are just... silly to look at.
Black Rose on the otherhand is not only a great card IRL but the design is marvelous.
Manga Mai (Kaz's) and Anzu are pretty good YGO girls. Season 0 Anzu is great, fun and I like that they added Miho for contrast.
