So I feel I should finally drop MPC-HC with CCCP and move onto something newer. What do you fags use nowadays? I tried MPV but it's fucking ass and uncomfortable to use.

mpv is the most comfortable. Especially with the webm scripts, preview on hover, easy film grain scripts if you watch some encode that removed it etc. Also lightweight so you never need to close the player. Sometimes I have 10 of them open at the same time. Also great for streaming from other sources.
