Why is protecting his friends considered as a bad/boring character trait? It's acutally a pretty common and dignified goal. Or at he very least not much better as becoming king of the pirates, or Hokage, or the strongest in the universe etc.

For me Ichigo is a pretty cool and grounded guy, I would hang up with him in highschool ... Can't say that to a bunch of shonen protagonists.
