Jolyne did have some issues with Jotaro at the start, but she realized her mistake when he sacrificed himself during the first fight with Whitesnake and then spent the rest of her time in prison trying to save him. Her daddy issues were dealt with early on and were inconsequential in the long run. Saying it like Jolyne's character revolves around them is just wrong.

Was its sin being the beginning? The more I think about how each part evolves and becomes bigger than the last makes me appreciate the simplicity of PB, especially the dynamic between Johnathan and Dio's relationship. Its characters may not be complex but do they really need to be? I just love how who Johnathan is he is able to have an effect on those around him. I'm not going to claim its one of the highest parts but I also hate to put it last.

Most of part 1's fights are either forgettable or a slog to get through. Basically just the beginning up to the house burning and then the Dio fight are worthwhile, though you need some of the stuff in the middle to develop the hamon stuff even if it's not very good. The fight in the tunnel is fine I guess.

part 5 is a rollercoaster that breaks down at the end and crashes and kills everyone on board. Chariot Requiem and onward just sucks but Sleeping Slaves was decent, everything prior was good.

PB's problem is that the ripple is inherently less interesting and more limited than stands as a concept. BT gets a pass because it absolutely pushes the ripple to its limit but PB feels like it wants to keep it simple in that regard, and it suffers as a result. It just feels like generic fighting energy for the most part. While stands in part 3 felt rather basic compared to later parts they still went off the walls at certain points with things like D'arby or the monkey whose stand was just a fucking boat. And while I'm on this tangent I think the spin suffers the same issue as the ripple at the end of the day but it ultimately works because A) it's allowed to go all-out from the start instead of having an entire part dedicated to building its baseline and B) it's bolstered by the fact that everyone else is using stands so it doesn't feel like it has to be the selling point of the franchise.

The prison setting get samey after a while, the only memorable locale are the stairs around Emporio's room and the public activities room.
The protagonists, bar Emporio, are interesting but are separated most of the time until the final battle, so there's not much sense of camaraderie compared to other parts' crew. The only fleshed out group is Jolyne-Hermes-FF, one goes AWOL for 1/3 of the part and one dies in the middle
Some fights got really drawn out, especially the Punishment Ward stretch

Honestly, I find it hard to reconcile with this and I suspect you're jaded. Your assertions may have their merits, but I don't see them.

It's been a while, but my experience with JoJo was built through the manga. I've never watched a single adaptation all the way through, because I know what happens, and I find David Productions work to be less compelling on the whole than Araki's. I can't even say Part 5 was a stand out because I only watch the anime to see fights I really like or don't remember very clearly. The ED is very good though.

Anyway, from my experience with JoJo, it's very good. It has its quirks and weaknesses, but on the whole it feels like it stands far and away above most popular and even a sizable chunk of more esoteric and obscure manga.

Yeah, back in the day, the fight everyone looked to when praising Part 6 again and again and again was C-Moon's fight. It wasn't even referenced as a whole, like, ("Why is part 6 good? Look at the C-Moon fight") but what Jolyne does with her powers there came up constantly.

It has the 2nd best Jojo and the 2nd best Jobro but it suffers from many of the same issues Part 3 had. Namely a weak beginning, bad villains, arc fatigue. All in all there are enough solid arcs to guarantee is quality and enough not so good ones to keep it from being much better.

Scary Monster, High Voltage and the one where Soundman dies are quite a mess.

It's highlights, Sugar Mountain, Mandom and Civil War are not of the same quality of King Crimson vs Metallica, The Grateful Dead, White Album and GW still has GD&O, Mistery of King Crimson and The Requiem Plays Quietly.

Gw it's just superior all things considered. It didn't end with a generic climatic fight but a deep, quiet reflection that both ties the themes of the part and subverts expectations.

Part 6 is the ultimate pleb filter. Jolyne, Annasui, Foo Fighters, Weather, and Pucci are all great characters. The minor villains are interesting and the stands are the most unique out of the whole series. The sons of DIO were done better than girono. It makes Jotaro more realistic (much to the dismay of 3fags). The ending is amazing and leaves you feeling melancholy.

You're lucky they kept as much body horror/gore as they did. They could have toned it down entirely rather than just black some things out for the TV airing. Manga is able to be more detailed though. The toning down might partially be due to just the toning down of the art in general rather than censorship, though I'm sure that's part of it too.

I'll give you that Jumping Jack Flash is probably one of my least favorite encounters in the series, but even that was just as good the average fight in part 3. Part 6 is probably the part with the most imaginative stands as a whole.

To say Stone Ocean is better than Part 1 is a huge stretch.

It's really unfair to compare any Stand wielding part except maybe, MAYBE part 7 to Phantom Blood because it's so much shorter and so very different than everything that comes before it. But as a story, no, Phantom Blood is just way too air tight to be called worse than Slog Ocean.

Except in later parts some fights are actually an amount of chapters that warrants 2 episodes. Especially early on some of the encounters only lasted 2-3 chapters but were given entire episodes (and the Sun was like this later on) and some encounters were 4-5 chapters but were given 2 episodes. Meanwhile some fights in later parts stuffed 6 chapters into a single episode even if they were multiple episodes long. Like Grateful Dead/Beach Boy, Highway Star, Stray Cat, etc.

Why does that matter? It doesn't make the episode any longer or shorter.

Having 2 chapters in an episode as opposed to 6 chapters makes a huge difference because of the need to stretch or condense/cut content. A lot of part 3's fights were too short to be over 2 episodes. It caused the series to feel slow. Part 3 as a whole getting 48 episodes while parts 4 and 5, which are longer, only getting 39 is stupid in general.
