>first non-Ghibli anime movie to be nominated for an Oscar
>not Your Name
>not A Silent Voice
How did Hosoda do it?
>>not Your Name
>>not A Silent Voice
Well, not being a shit movie certainly helped.
It was extremely mediocre
>nominated in 2018 during a slow contest for best animated feature
>both the latter two came out in 2016 during a highly competitive time for animated features
Gee, I wonder why?
Shit movie desu
Even Okko's Inn was better
>both the latter two came out in 2016 during a highly competitive time for animated features
Then why did they lose to this?
he wasnt licencsed by funimation
Who gives a fuck? Can't you Yea Forums niggers stay on your own damn board?
Yea Forums?
Because 99% of retarded hipsters that even bother watching these retarded independent film festivals think anything originating from France is "innovative/deep/artistic/mesmerizing" because some fucking huffpost article told them to think that about it. Mirai was average at best, but worrying about a bunch of egotistical hollywood fucks giving each other participation trophies think is true art and then begging for their "Best animated feature film" scraps is the stupidest thing you can do.
A silent voice was garbage and your name was unironicly too smart for the academy
>your name was unironicly too smart for the academy
Your Name, released at a bad time for the oscars and that's the only reason why it didn't get nominated.
Mirai is only nominated because oscars realized the fumbled with Your Name, and mirai got the pity nominee
"Look we totally aren't ignorant to japanimation we swear!"
I'm still mad that open up your eyes wasn't nominated for best original song but they greatest show crap was
I want to be angry at you for sending me off to look at ponyshit but I actually have to admit that is some really good music.
The music is the only reason that franchise has any value. Danial ingram is wasted on ponyshit
It's true.
>Mirai
I'm gonna name my daughter that I don't care if she is white.
Why does it even matter it's not like it's going to win anything. The Academy knows shit all about movies, and even less about animation. Who gives a fuck?
>>not Your Name
>>not A Silent Voice
>first non-Ghibli
Then it wasn't the first you idiot.
Read that post again
>caring about converged american shit awards
Focus on the jap awards instead, they're more reliable
this movie was so painfully mediocre. Glad I only paid 2 dollars to watch it
Mirai also won the Japan Academy Prize.
Imagine fucking caring about Oscars you gay fuck
^
Does it matter? It's just a pity nomination to make the category seem inclusive, it'll always go to whatever new Disney/Pixar movie is out.
We already know that the people voting don't even watch all of the nominations, they just vote for whatever movie their kid was nagging about that year.
>silent voice
how much longer until people realize that just because a movie appealed to your emotions it doesn't make it an A+ film? Silent voice was terrible
Literally because it was kid friendly.
>giving a fuck about what some old irrelevant hack thinks about a field they have no interest or competence of
Do yourself a favour and disregard immediately any opinion from news channels, actors, musicians and most importantly politicians, those aren't opinion but PR moves aimed at normies.
It will make you life easyer if you ignore the ambient noise, trust me.
>Silent voice was terrible
T-the manga is still good, right?
>Hosoda
It doesn't mean shit
It just went to him by default.
I think they're laughing because you said that yet couldn't spell "unironically."
Ever hear of the Dunning-Kreuger Effect? Maybe, just maybe you are the one with shit tastes and not everyone else you uncultured swine.
The one shot was. The manga went to shit fast.
Which is presumably why the movie goes to shit. You notice a distinct drop in quality from the bridge scene onwards where it goes from being sad scene, happy scene, sad scene, happy scene etc. to sad, sad, sad, sad, are you sad yet? and never lets up.
No idea, since it wasn't anywhere near as good as most of Hosoda's other stuff, let alone either of those.
Something to do with Gkids promoting it heavily with Oscar judges.
>The one shot was. The manga went to shit fast.
Been getting into manga just recently, so I've been wondering if Silent Voice is considered to be exceptional or if it is just a slightly above average school/coming of age drama. Personally I enjoyed it a lot, although sometimes chapters felt to drag on for too long and some scenes felt a bit forced.
The sad truth. Otherwise Ferdinand and The Boss Baby would never had made it past the selection stage.
2017 was peak of shit taste for the Academy, wasn't it?
Nice self-awareness
It isn't even above average. I don't feel like any single character earned their revelation - save for maybe Yuzuru.
>also
Can you read, fuckwit?
Nobody cares about American awards.
I didn't like the manga but loved the film.
It doesn't really get that much discussion amongst manga fans because honestly it's not particularly notable, so there's no real consensus
You should try reading Sangatsu no Lion if you want to see how an exceptional manga (that also deals with bullying among other things) is like.
>it's not particularly notable
What is considered notable then?
When I think about anime or manga that takes place in school or high school environment, first thing coming to my mind is something like pic related: a light-hearted story about bunch of cutesy school girls having the time of their life with no worries whatsoever. Compared to this, "a Silent Voice" seems to have a much more mature tone and themes, although the setting stays the same, but, I like I said, I don't really know about manga that much.
Thanks, I'll look it up.
That's a good movie. Much better than most anime films that have come out in the past few years. Sorry your weeb brain can't enjoy anything without anime titties or high school girls.

It's pretty amusing you think of it that way considering ASV is a shounen and most CGDCT are seinen. Even within its realm though, things like Aku no Hana tend to catch on a lot more.
Digimon Hosoda?
The same one
