preferring the Rebuilds

Evangelion is watched entirely by plebs. Good art does not a good show make

>not thinking they have to be considered as a whole

is there anything more pleb than being OP?

This, they are obviously the same from different perspectives

Preferring Sailor Moon Crystal to Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon.

WRONG FAGGOTS
That's even more pleb.

Watching Evangelion

Sure as a whole but they are not the same timline wise
They are generally agreed to not be the same ending and I think thats very clear if you watch both. They are two different endings/versions of Third Impact

>stating the point is less plebeian than strong delivery
Whatever you say senpai

Liking Rei

People who still make Eva threads on Yea Forums 20 years after the fact.

I literally just watched it

But it still hasn't been topped

Depends on what kind of shows you like. I like Eva, but wouldn't put it in my top 10.

They're the same time from different perspectives you retard

They're the same

Clearly we should be making Gunbuster threads.

>People think Shinji accepted instrumentality in the TV ending
The dialogue at the end with Shinji accepting his individuality clearly contradicts this.

The TV ending is just as understandable as the movie. I honestly don't think the movie is necessary. If anything, the movie makes stuff more confusing. And has just as much symbolism as the TV ending.

I CHOOSE the manga's ending

Just because youre wrong doent mean youre interesting or smart

>preferring quality animation and storytelling makes you a pleb.
Fuck off nigger. Enjoy your crayon drawings and hour long elevator sequences.

not having Yoko Hikasa as your seiyuufu

Thanks. Needed that laugh.

imagine trying to sound like an evafag even when you barely have watched eva once and didn't even get it kek
the are the same you fucking retard

hasn't been topped in what criterium exactly?
because I can easily find you a show that:
-Has better art
-Is more entertaining
-Handled psychological themes in better way

The one where Shinji moves to Germany at the end, and Asuka declares that he owns her in body and spirit (in German)?

Not that guy, but about the only thing Eva hasn't been topped at is its direction. But even then, that's only considering the very VERY specific tone and style it was going for. Various other shows later on tried to imitate it, all of them failing. So in that way, it hasn't been topped. But you can't exactly compare the tone/direction in Eva to say...Princess Tutu or Clannad or Utawarerumono. Or even other Gainax series like Mahoromatic.

In literally everything else, I can come up with shows that surpassed Eva.

3.33 is the ultimate pleb filter.

I always prefered the shows ending. I think Evangelion as a series uses lore as more of a backdrop for its introspection and deconstructive elements, the finale of the show dropping all pretenses of a cohesive narrative and instead focusing on shinjis thoughts and healing is basically the best possible end. End of Evangelion is fine, too, but it's bitter, it feels a chore to watch.

The reason that rebuild is such hot garbage is because it thinks that the audience actually cares about the plot and lore, it's hours and hours of technobabble and jibberish, and undermines almost all the character motivation (while at the same time flanderizing their personalities)

Preferring Rei at any point.

Actually yikes

>the ending where only Shinji gets a conclusion to his story is the patrician ending
Or Gainax was already incompetent and had already ruined Gunbuster (a fucking ova, how do you even pull that off?) by being incompetent and then the sarin gas attack happened and things were basically doomed.
You can hipster it up and meme about EoE all you want but Anno was so committed to it he literally choked a bitch to make it happen.

What is that anime which handles psychological themes in better way, has better art, is more entertaining, more popular and outsold eva?
It still has not been topped.

Well, I mean Magical Girl Madoka covers all but "outsold and more popular", but that feels like a weird goalpost.

Haruhi did all those things. Though it's your opinion on everything except the sales part. But Haruhi definitely sold more, had similar direction and covered similar psychological topics.

Still hasn't been topped then.

Both are canon, if you think end of eva is an alternate ending, you miss the point that they're both canon and last two eps take place during end of eva. They happen right before naked Rei is sitting on top of Shinji and he decides to not go through with instrumentality.

what happened to gunbuster?

First half of EVA is better than the second.

Is there a reason why the second half was so tonally different than the first? Its like they did a complete 180 and really started loading on the depression after Shinji fights Leilei. Was it always planned to be like that?

Yes* but they also realized early that their finances weren't working out so they needed to compensate with some creative direction

*(in as much as "always" can be said about anything when we know the proposal had a somewhat different base theme)

They spent so much time making the first 10-12 episodes such high quality that they had to speed up production of the rest of the show. Why they started airing the show before it was finished, I'll never know. Probably because they had already booked the slot on a TV station. But even if they had made the whole show before it started airing, they wouldn't have had the money to keep that animation quality going. The writing and flow might have been better, but the animation budget was already spent by the time Asuka was introduced.

Even if the budget hadn’t run out, I like the idea of story boards cutouts representing shinji’s inagibation if his ideal life. It feels disjointed and fits pretty well on the whole.

These are both true, but there was also the very real case of them having to throw most of their work away due to a terrorist attack that hewed to close to their original idea.

"Japan also saw a great tragedy befall their nation when a doomsday cult attacked a Japanese railway station with sarin gas with hopes of ushering in an apocalypse. The attacks hewed too closely to a plot that Evangelion was covering. Creator Hidaki Anno feared censorship from the Japanese government and had to scrap initial plans for the back half of the television show."

Actually this.

why the gay boy angel

you need both, but i enjoyed the tv ending the most. if you're a visual thinker you're better suited to interact with that. if not then you have the movie to help you out.

Yes, your taste.

where is individuality placed in opposition to instrumentality in the tv ending
the focus isn't even on shinji's individuality in the tv ending but rather his refusal to connect with others

That's bullshit, it's very likely that the only episode affected was 25.

I agree. Series ending is better. I think the EoE ending was the writer copping out due to pressure, reverting back to an edgelord ending.
