Stop watching shows based on the studio and watch shows based on the people doing it. I nthis case, Junichi Sato, who is basically the king of mahou shoujo. Go watch one of his other dozen shoujo series if you want more like it. Shows he's made under multiple other studios, but still have the same feel because he directed/planned them.

Not wanting to watch Toei anime is perfectly reasonable as you pretty much already know what you're getting. Even Satou Junichi couldn't save the last 30 or so episodes of Hugtto from being garbage.

I tried watching the first episode of this show and honestly, it was a mess. Half of it felt like a commercial for a toy wand. The other half felt like they were trying to set up too many story arcs and characters. I couldn't believe it was done by Junichi Sato. I probably should watch more episodes, but just the first one was a struggle to get through. Which isn't a good sign.

Tutu felt less like a toy ad than most of their other works. It has been years so perhaps I'm just forgetting things.

One of the best SoL/coming of age stories in a fun colorful magical girl package. Despite being a generally lighthearted show, it does drama exceptionally well. None of it feels forced which is a result of how well-defined and fleshed out the characters are.
