several good positions, but the level is very high (as expected for pros and their apprentices). The level in 3-Gatsu no Lion is also high, but they at least have a few segments explaining shogi to the sisters using cute cats.
I'm sad that Mononofu got axed, that would have been a great series for shogi beginners, since the MC goes from zero to hero.

the light novel mostly goes into details about the inner workings of the pro-shogi system, not the game itself. (One surprise: remember the scene where they race to complete three difficult shogi puzzles? They used the exact same puzzles in the LN, based on the descriptions of the positions and their tricky solutions.)
