Whole plot constructed on cheap shock value and twist. One of the main characters doesn't even have a personality, and when story already close to the end he decides give us explanation and give her some 'development'. Also, Eren's character development is a joke. Isayama just skipped 3 years of the story and then filled the blanks with flashbacks, which is the most cheapest tool author can use to develop a personality.
AoT should have ended with everyone dying like Isayama originaly planned instead of dragging out

We do not even know what's happening still, it's a mistery slowly unraveling and revealing more misteries, the same argument could be used to call the Dark Continent arc horrible then, muh abillity to grant a wish.

The anime is decently famous for top notch art and animation but that's not to say that the manga is badly drawn. The first few chapters didn't age well but most of the manga looks good. I'd suggest you reading it since it's in my opinion better than the anime.
