But in all seriousness, Disney. For as much as people complain about the endless chatter in Castle in the Sky and other Ghibli films, I think it adds lots of characterization to the depicted characters, especially during the slapstick scenes.

I don't know if 4kids was necessarily the only thing that killed OP is America. I think the goofy and cartoony nature (compared to how edgy the other big 3 were sometimes) and the low budget of the anime version also contributed.

Of course it would be more popular without 4kids. But I still don't think it would have the same hook and "coolness" factor as Naruto or Bleach. It might have found a different audience, who knows, if Toei wasn't so half assed that would help a lot as well.
