For some reason both Rei and Asuka are visibly in love with Shinji. Rei's acting totally out of character, she's supposed to be a doll, not a cutesy waifu. Asuka got not even half the development she got in NGE, that's obviously due to the limited time they had, but why the fuck would you waste all that time on the Eva battles when the series was loved by fans for the characters and not the battles? Makes no sense. It all felt like Anno was desperately trying to appeal to the people who want to get into the series but don't want to invest any time or effort on watching the main series and understanding the messages that it conveys. Shinji is glorified and depicted as a hero for choosing one person over humanity's survival, what the fuck? Is he an alpha male shounen protagonist now?

This movie was fucking great. Misato and pretty much everyone seem to have realized during the timeskip that Shinji isn't a hero but an idiot who can't be entrusted with an Eva because what he has done in the previous movie pretty much initiated the end of humanity, and it was for a stupid reason too. Asuka is in-character again, thankfully enough she's not cooking for Shinji in this movie. Rei is in-character again aswell, she's depicted as a doll rather than the typical kuudere waifu she was in 2.0. Lastly, 3.0 manages to perfectly capture the mysterious atmosphere that the main series had. It doesn't explain everything to you, but it explains enough things so you can keep up with what's going on.

Remembering that the release of 1.0 is what all of this is based around, we're past that. Next milestones going forward (by working backward):

After having just rewatched all of everything, I think I understand a bit better what Anno meant by making the Rebuilds more accessible.
But he wants to make more accessible messages that most people do not want to understand in totality - they think they understand the total depth of the messages about the nature of relationships, and dismiss it as teenaged angst, but they never really understood in totality..
If they did, they would also go through depression.
But imagine trying to make that message "accessible" or "more accessible". The Rebuilds might haven been a Trojan-horse like way of sneaking things in in watered-down varieties compared to NGE, but one think hasn't changed - the unwillingness of the audience to understand the painful things to know.

But it didn't, we clearly see third impact stopping when Kaworu spears Unit 01, then the fucked state of the world is due to mysterious events that took place in between 2.0 and 3.0. And even if that were true, Misato and the others take the worst possible route to getting what they want (Shinji not getting in the robot) by treating him like shit and telling him nothing, so he tries to escape at the first opportunity in order to get in the robot. If they just kept their idiocy in check and treated cordially and explained their understanding of the situation, there would be no movie. The entire movie depends on every single character on Wille being a sub-60 IQ retard. I guess near third impact also partially liquified their brains.

That's because all of the characters in rebuild are just rebuilds of the real life characters that Shinji left beh8nd in the original 3I. They are incomplete because they are only Shinji's version of themselves and lack other perspectives. This is also why everyone seems more 1 dimensional; they literally are, because none of this is real and is only a result of 3I from EoE, which is ongoing.
