Kengan is definitely good and if you enjoyed Baki you will definitely like this BUT the brutal nature of Baki is not present in the series and there is a lot more comfy and comedy bits as well but they make up for it in the much better art. One thing about Itagaki is the art just looks strange even as someone who loves the series.

This pic perfectly represents Itagaki's knowledge of anatomy, he just often exagerates various parts of the body as a stylistic choice.

It's a manga, the over-the-top actions and super human capacities are accepted in the universe.

But there's a truth in your criticism, it's that there's basically no consequence in Baki ( Not like there's a lot more in Kengan ), after a 100 volume the only real impactful death in the series is Retsu's one, Jack is supposed to have "thrown away his future" 70 volumes ago, and only Katsumi was meaningfully hurted and not the same after a fight ( Doppo doesn't count his loss of an eye changed nothing but his design ).
For a manga that puts so much emphasis on the violence of its fights, the fear of death and shit, it's quite ludicrous how so few people have died or how quick they heal from "injuries".

Tho Kengan is not much better with how the author resurected a literal who with a broken neck.

I think the popularity of Kengan in Yea Forums was thanks to the weekly storytimes. From the viet scans to the translations made by HnG.
I like Kengan but I still believe Baki is superior. The story, the characters, the deep philosophy behind the fights. Baki goes deep into different questions of martial arts and also offers new answers for old questions.

Besides, when it comes to dynamic fighting, nobody can beat Itagaki.
