The scene with the parents was great, perfect music and VAs nailing the tone of their lines. It's exactly how I imagined it in my head when reading the manga.
The adaptation has had a few shitty moments here and there and the pacing has been all over the place, but I'm pretty happy with it overall so far. They're obviously doing the best they can with the 1 cour limit.
I feel like this adaptation would be perfect if they could have stretched it to 15-18 episodes. With 15 we'd at least get three episodes per volume.
The 4komas are great and I wish they could animate them all. Glad they're fitting some of them in where they can.

To echo They're pretty much cutting or shortening down a lot of stuff just so they're able to get to the end. So Much so that there's not even enough time to play the OP and ED in most episodes.
The end of this episode is sort of the first big turning point for the story in the manga, and the plot starts to get a lot spicier from here so it makes sense that they'd want to give more episodes to the later developments.

I think so, it's not very long and is a completed story that the author planned out from the beginning, so there's not a lot of fat/filler chapters to wade through. It's pretty much all straight plot aside from the 4komas and the volume extras which you can read or skip, they're always at the end of chapters so they don't really get in the way. It's not the best most revolutionary scifi story ever told but it's enjoyable and I read it all over a few days.
tl;dr: 49 chapters over 5 volumes. Pretty fun read.

I'm guessing they are clones of some sort that the parents will transfer their minds into so they never die.

Tinfoil hat post ahead. The two most important parents said the very same sentence. So it must mean something and I'm going to tell you why.
This episode introduced 3 scientific methods: cloning (at the new planet), dna sampling and memory transfer. Some of the parents of the children are working on the last two. Why would the show give us this information?
"It's as if my body is being torn apart" means that the kids aren't actually the parents kids, but their clones (dna sampling and cloning). They want to use them to transfer their minds/memories (memory transfer) onto them, so they can prolong their own lives.
That's also the reason why so many of those "parents" hate their children. They don't want to get too attached to them, since emotions would make them hesitate to take over their bodies. It also explains, why Funicia looks so much like Quitterie , even though she is just adopted. They are BOTH clones of the same person.
All of this makes their space odyssey even more interesting. Who wants to keep the replacement bodies away from their parents? It certainly isn't their interest to get them harmed. And why does it seem like only Aries mother isn't involved?
I have to say that this series builds itself up to be the unexpected underdog of this season.
