Manga for sure, although the anime has a really chill appeal to it. I always fast-forwarded through the songs, though; I wanted to leave it up to my imagination.
Beck really captures that "wacky band of kids vs. the big bad corporation" vibe that pops up in fiction. Add that to the adventures when they're touring and the down-to-earth problems with compelling characters, and you've got a manga that I haven't really been able to find a comparison in. It's also gorgeously drawn, which is a definite plus.
