With Devilman Crybaby last year and Dororo this year

...is there a chance this edgy 70s remakes thing will become a trend? What would you like to see adapted Yea Forums?

KyoAnus is dead so hope moe dies too.
We need more edgy shows.

You keep making this same thread.

Violence Jack I guess.

Edgy Urusei Yatsura.
Start production on it the very week Rumiko Takahashi dies, just to add extra salt to the wound.

sorry, I just need to fill up my "manga to read" list. It's so hard to find good, edgy stuff

I'm surprised Drifting Classroom never got an anime adaptation.

With, like, the Oni wanting Earth so they could eat the people. There's some greater alien power the Oni need to respect and play by its rules, they enter Ataru as the technical owner of Earth so he can lose it to them in a contest, they lose and Lum's trying to use sex appeal and rape drugs to make him give it over anyway.

You forgot dororon remake in 2011. You know the one where the end was everything in the world having an orgy. The main loli getting gangbanged by a dresser and steak knifes.

W-will we ever see a complete, quality adaptation of Berserk if it ever finishes one day?
Be brutally honest

Is devilman crybaby good? I'm thinking of seeing it because of the director.

oh yeah, the good old manly edgy manga of the old before all the modern faggotry

Attached: Violence-Jack-06-260.png (1176x1740, 318K)

it's not actually old though

>that white space
if that's a man he clearly has an erection

Is this supposed to be a female?

Considering this was made by the author of Devilman, Go Nakai, what do you think?

Franken Fran could be interesting to see in color, it also helps that it doesn't take itself too seriously (maybe)

It's... unique. It's quite good and the OST is amazing, but the artsyle etc is kind of love it or hate it

Getter Robo
Sakigake Otokojuku
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro

never ever
violence jack has too much rape in it which is a big no no in our pussywhipped day

Thanks for the response!

no problem user

Nope

Umi no Toriton, not because it's good, or because I think it needs more edge, but because it was my first anime.

Crybaby was not a "remake", nor was it anything like the original manga.
Nagai stuff has gotten regular adaptations over the years, again and again. Not that I would call them "edgy". But if you want a "trend", then that's certainly not a recent one.
Of course, if you liked Crybaby, you'll probably not like any other kind of Devilman, but that's another issue altogether.

>I just need to fill up my "manga to read" list
That's what and to an extent are for. Go make threads over there.

Devilman was already edgy. Crybaby was probably a bit edgier but adaptations of manga that change some things around has never been rare. For someone that both watched and read Dororo, is it that much edgier than the manga? Some people only associate Tezuka with Astro Boy and so don't think of him as someone that writes violent or edgy things but he never really shied away from violence or other dark themes. His art style just doesn't seem like it would fit with that when you first look at it.

Yeah, 1972 was like yesterday.

>W-will we ever see a complete, quality adaptation of Berserk if it ever finishes one day?
Yes.
The problem: It won't ever finish.

I'm so tired of frivolous Isekai shit that I would welcome a return to edge, but they would need to actually commit to it not just half-ass it and then have everything magically OK after the drama is done or people constantly almost dying but never dying.

The original manga is the best Devilman anything but miles, but Crybaby isn't bad.

You should read Houseki no Kuni.

You need to look beyond the surface level stuff then. There's good stuff out there, but you have to look.

>Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
Is there something wrong with the adaption? I read the manga but I haven’t watched the anime

The anime stopped following the manga at a certain point along with rearranging a ton of stuff
The anime original stuff is also worse than the source material's New Bloodline arc
I want a redone anime but it'd be an investment

Elfen Lied.

>Crybaby isn't bad.
Well, if you compare it to the manga, it kinda is.
If you compare it to the Devilman OVA, it is.
When you compare it to other recent Nagai adaptations, it is.
And even compared to the very flawed 1972 anime Devilman, I'd say it's pretty bad.

Part of that is that Yuasa didn't really try to understand what Devilman was about and had a very superficial approach to it.
Another part are his countless additions that add nothing of value.
And, of course, there's his style. The nicest thing you can say about that is that it doesn't fit Devilman at all.

Crybaby is okay, even somewhat solid, as a standalone anime. Not bad, but not outstanding either. It is worse in the context of being an adaptation.

I like Yuasa's style and thought that it didn't work too heavily against Crybabby. I thought the first episode was very good and he got it right. The problem is that immediately after the first episode he diverged from the manga completely and, like you said, basically added in a bunch of stupid shit that didn't feel like it belonged in Devilman.

>I like Yuasa's style and thought that it didn't work too heavily against Crybabby.
Well, let's just say that his style is quite peculiar. No shading, scrawly scruffy linework, overexaggerated animation. That can work in a more experimental work like Tatami Galaxy.
But Devilman has always had a more solid, heavy, down-to-earth style. From Nagai's thick expressive lines in the manga to the elaborately detailed cel animation for the OVA.

I do admit that I'm not a big fan of Yuasa's style in general, but I can tolerate it in some of his other work. Here, I can't.

It was the least egregious thing to me.
I didn't like his Jinmen design but I had a bigger issue with how he totally changed everything about that scenario in ways I really did not like, more than him making Jinmen look stupid.

>It was the least egregious thing to me.
Oh, definitely - I do agree with you there.
Had everything else been fine, I don't think I'd have THAT much of a problem with the visuals.

Well, it didn't entirely diverge from the manga, it still included some key moments like sirene, the one demon with the human souls in his back forgot his name, miki's death and even used something that had never animated yet, the climax of the manga. I still agree with you though.

>the one demon with the human souls in his back forgot his name
JINMEEEEEEEEEENNNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did they even mention Jinmen's name in Crybabby? I swear the way Yuasa handled Jinmen was so fucking awful. He basically removed that little girl when Akira interacting with her gave him a lot of personality, to replace it with Akira being a crybabby dipshit which we already knew he was ad nauseum. Then Jinmen appears as some drooling mute retard who slowly walks up to Akira in a hangar rather than being a sadistic asshole who fucks with Akira in dark tunnels.
Then he gets killed in a way that makes it seem like basically an afterthought (which Yuasa does so many fucking times in Crybaby even to the point of relegating some deaths offscreen) when the brutality and violence in Devilman is actually important to the storytelling. Seriously what the fuck man.

>But Devilman has always had a more solid, heavy, down-to-earth style
Not really. Crybaby is very different, but the original manga is frequently expressionist more than it is grounded.

It's forgettable. Worst Yuasa work I've seen.

I'm still mad that they cut out or simplified all the crazy demon designs and body horror

Attached: welvath.png (402x479, 105K)

Jinmen not having the little girl was done first in the original OVAs. I'm pretty sure Jinmen was fought in a park in the manga too but was changed to a tunnel in the OVAs. You seem to be mixing up the manga and OVAs.

I make all comparisons with the manga.

>I'm pretty sure Jinmen was fought in a park in the manga too
He was. It was much creepier and more affecting than Crybaby's take or the OVA's.

>Then Jinmen appears as some drooling mute retard who slowly walks up to Akira in a hangar rather than being a sadistic asshole who fucks with Akira in dark tunnels.
Jinmen met Akira in a tunnel in the OVA, not the manga.

I guess I remembered it wrong. But the point is that the way Yuasa did it was really bad and he made Jinmen an ineffectual shambling retard.

Can we get one Susanoo adaptation before another devilman or jack?

Jinmen's also important as a demon Akira can just totally despise, after Sirene who had a kind of beauty and nobility Akira could admire even if bitch gotta go, it's a point for him decide just fuck these demons entirely. It loses a little more from having Akira in that kind of mode from the onset.

It is more like the anime is more somber. In some ways the manga is slightly edgier when it comes to death, but aside from that the edginess is pretty equal

Mazinger Zero adaptation

Yes, perfect.

nope

Shit.

Just watch the fucking OVAs or read the manga and be done with it. Crybaby is fine.

So that's where G Gundam got it.

We had Skull Man and Cyborg 009 a few years ago too
