I'm currently reading "new grappler baki" and have just got to the part where that snake hands chinese kaioh managed to cure baki during the 100 year Chinese tournament.

It's pretty amazing, I love the maximum tournament and the Prisoner arc was pretty cool too. I cant believe that I didn't pick up on Jack "Hammer" being baki's brother initially, the last fight of that tournament and even the ending where all the fighters are lined up congratulating baki was fucking beautiful. It sucks that I got spoiled that R*tsu fucking dies, he's easily one of the best characters as seen from how he treats others and fights, I was so shocked when the one-shotted Katsumi but it made me like the 4000 year chinese karate meme man even more.

I fucking love the pseudoscientific cutaway sequences. They're always a little tone-deaf but usually tend to try and establish some basis of logic and it helps emphasize when a character's doing crazy shit.

Yuichiro during a fight between Yujiro and Baki literally appeared as a ghost, called Yujiro a punk-ass bitch, and started rooting for Baki. So even if the TL was wrong, the translator guessed right that the Hanma genetics are built around hating your kids and loving your grandchildren.

His entire backstory basically cements that he was a really chill guy, just like Baki, and just like Baki, had no real beef with Yujiro after a point.

I read it but no it doesn't really compare. Shimabukuro seemed to use a similar narration to Itagaki they way it explains some techniques or actions a character makes, using real life examples or pseudosciend and taking it to extreme.
The art is way clearer in Baki and it has way better panel composition though.

Maria was a top model once they started dating.
She only became fat due to some medicine she took for an undefined illness and falling deeper and deeper into depression, Oliva's feelings for her didn't change one bit since she loved her for who she was and despite becoming an absolute unit, she still kept her strong character, and strong is beautiful.
It's a pretty nice story, same with Doppo and his wife.

the translator is an edgelord who hates love, so he changed most of the dialogue to stuff that didn't make any sense, like when Oliva told Baki that nothing was stronger than love and the translator changed it to Oliva telling Baki that he wouldn't let him escape the next time
